My Pick
Walsh, who fights out of Ventura, California is a southpaw who’s just 25 years old and he enters the ring with a perfect record of 16-0 with 11 Ko’s. He has 71 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2021. He stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with 71.5-inch reach and has impressive power as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 68.8 per cent and he’s halted four of his last half seven opponents. Walsh enjoyed a fine amateur career as he reportedly captured six Irish National Titles along with a European gold medal.
He started boxing as a six year old and had his first bout at the age of 11. As a pro, Walsh won the WBC USA Silver Junior Middleweight Title in 2023 by stopping Carson Jones in the fourth round. He defended the belt twice and added the WBC Continental Americas Crown in 2024 by halting Dauren Yeleussinov in the ninth round and has defended it four times. Walsh has also beaten the likes of Fernando Vargas, Elias Espadas, Dean Sutherland, Carlos Cervantes Ismael Villarreal, Wesley Tucker and Juan Jose Velasco.
Denny is now 35 years old and owns a record of 21-4-3 with just 1 Ko to his name. He’s also a southpaw and turned pro back in 2015 and has 200 rounds of experience since. He measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach for an inch height advantage on Walsh. Denny has almost no power to speak of as he’s stopped just one of his 28 opponents. That stoppage came in 2023 when he halted Matteo Signani on cuts in the eighth round for the European Middleweight Title.
Denny won the vacant British Midlands Area Title in 2017 with a 10-round decision over Tom Stokes. He captured the vacant English Middleweight Belt in 2022 via a 10-round split decision over River Wilson-Bent in a rematch. The pair originally met in 2021 and fought to a seven-round technical draw after seven rounds when the fight was stopped due to a cut suffered by Wilson-Bent. Denny then defended his English Title with 10-round decisions over Bradley Rea and Brad Pauls. He also has wins over Felix Cash and Elvis Ohorga.
The other two draws on Denny’s record came against Simon Lucas over four rounds in 2015 and against Christian Hoskin Gomez over four rounds in his very next fight in 2016. Denny’s first defeat came at the hands of Reece Cartwright by eighth-round TKO in a shot at the vacant English Middleweight Title in 2018. He dropped a 10-round majority decision to Linus Udofia in 2019, again for the vacant English Middleweight Belt and second round by Hamzah Sheeraz in 2024 in a shot at the Commonwealth, European, and WBC Silver Middleweight Belts.
Prediction…
Denny has arguably faced stiffer competition than Walsh but he is 35 years old, 10 years older than Walsh, and has been stopped twice. He also has virtually no power in his attack but does possess fine boxing skills. This may appear to be an easy fight for Walsh on paper but it might not be that way if Denny is in peak form. Still, I’m expecting the younger Walsh to earn a victory even though it is just his second fight as a middleweight, as Denny doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay.
Walsh has youth, speed and power on his side.
