Sebastian Hernandez Reyes vs Kyonosuke Kameda Preview September 23rd, 2026
Sebastian Hernandez Reyes of Tijuana, Mexico travels to Osaka, Japan this Wednesday, September 23rd to take on hometown hero Kyonosuke Kameda. The 10-round featherweight bout can be seen live in Japan on Abema TV. Reyes last fought just a few weeks ago on August 8th when he stopped Jose Lopez Nunez in the second round. In his previous outing in December, Reyes lost a highly-controversial 12-round decision to Junto Nakatani. Kameda last saw action in October when he beat former world champion John Riel Casimero by a wide 10-round unanimous decision. That win snapped a two-fight losing streak for Kameda as he dropped a 10-round majority decision to David Picasso and was stopped in the seventh round by Luis Nery in his two previous fights.

Reyes is just 25 years old and fights out of San Diego, California. He makes the ring walk with a fine mark of 21-1 with 19 Ko’s and has boxed 101 rounds since turning pro in 2020. Looking at his record it’s quite obvious that he possesses superb power as 90.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s gone the distance just three times as a pro but that included two of his last three contests. He went all 12 rounds with Nakatani with many experts feeling he was shafted on the scorecards and beat Azat Hovhannisyan via a wide 10-round unanimous decision before meeting that.
In addition, he took a four-round unanimous decision over Mauro Gutierrez Ochoa in his second pro outing in 2021. Reyes measures 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 65-inch reach. He first took a step up in class when he met Hovhannisyan and then took another leap upwards against Nakatani. Reyes also has victories over Yonfrez Parejo, Kevin Luis Munoz and Irving Perez. This will be just his fourth fight outside of his Mexican homeland. He’s well known for his power and aggression and he will be making his debut as a 126 lb featherweight.
The 27-year-old Kameda climbs through the ropes with a mark of 16-5-2 with 9 Ko’s and has 125 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2018. He stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 70.5-inch. He has a 5.5-inch reach advantage on Reyes but is just half-an-inch taller than his opponent. Kameda owns decent power as 56.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However he’s gone the distance in nine of his past 13 outings and was stopped by Luis Nery. Kameda was also stopped in his pro debut in 2018 as Shinnosuke Kimoto halted him in the second round.
Kameda bounced back though with three straight wins and was then held to a four-round draw by Ryugo Ushijima. Three fights later he dropped a four-round split decision to Jinki Maeda. Kameda won the vacant Japanese Youth Featherweight Title in 2021 when he stopped Tsubasa Narai in the second round but lost it in his first defence via an eight-round unanimous decision to Hiroki Hanabusa. The other draw on his record was an eight-round affair with Mugicha Nakagawa in 2023.
Prediction…
Kameda should be given credit for taking on top-level opponents such as Casimero, Nery, Picasso and now Reyes. He definitely doesn’t shy away from tough fights and has fared well in them other than the Nery encounter. Reyes made a name for himself against Junto Nakatani and almost pulled off a huge upset, but that would have spoiled the plans for the Naoya Inoue vs Nakatani fight. Kameda has a decent reach advantage on Reyes, but the Mexican is a bit like a bull in a china shop and just keeps attacking. Kameda will have his hands full here and this is his first fight in almost a year while Reyes fought just last month. Kameda will certainly put up a fight but I have a feeling that Reyes is simply too aggressive for him and carries too much power.
A fine matchup with Reyes having the big edge in power.
