Amanda Serrano vs Cheyenne Hanson Preview May 30th, 2026

Amanda Serrano of Puerto Rico is set to battle Cheyenne ‘Pepper’ Hanson Germany this Saturday, May 30th with Serrano’s WBO and WBA Featherweight Titles on the line. The 10, three-minute round fight can be seen live from El Paso, Texas on ESPN and ESPN+. Serrano last fought in January when she beat Reina Tellez by a 10-round unanimous decision. In her previous outing last July, Serrano dropped a 10-round majority decision to Katie Taylor in their trilogy match with Taylor’s three super lightweight titles on the line. The two first met in 2022 with Taylor winning a hotly-disputed split decision to retain her IBF, WBC and WBO Lightweight Titles. Serrano and Taylor then met in a rematch in November, 2024 with Taylor once again winning a highly-controversial decision, this time a unanimous nod with scores of 95-94 across the board despite being deducted a point for headbutting in the eighth round. Hanson’s last contest resulted in a sixth-round TKO over Flor Rodriguez in March.

My Pick

Amanda Serrano is a 37-year-old southpaw who owns a fine record of 48-4-1 with 31 Ko’s and has 266 rounds of experience under her belt since turning pro in 2009. She also has combat experience in wrestling and mixed martial arts. Serrano stands just over 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 65.5-inch reach and has good power in her fists as 646 per cent of her wins have been by stoppage but she has gone the distance in 10 of her last 11 fights and in 12 of the past 17.

Serrano is a former Staten Island, New York City Golden Gloves, and Empire State Amateur Champion and has won numerous regional and minor pro titles. Since turning pro, she’s also captured the WBC and IBO Featherweight Titles as well as the IBF World Female Super Featherweight, WBO World Female Lightweight, WBO World Female Super Bantamweight, WBO World Female Bantamweight, WBO World Female Super Lightweight, and WBO World Female Super Flyweight Titles.

Her first defeat came at the hands of Frida Walberg in 2012 when she lost by a 10-round unanimous decision in a shot at the WBC World Female Super Featherweight Title. She appeared to do enough to beat Katie Taylor in April, 2022, which was a fight-of-the-year candidate, but came out on the wrong end of a split decision for the IBF/WBC/WBO Lightweight Titles, while her draw came in 2009 in a four-round affair with Ela Nunez. Serrano has weighed between 118 and 138.5 lbs during her pro career and has actually won titles in seven different weight classes.

She also has wins over Sarah Mahfoud, Erika Cruz Hernandez, Kimberly Connor, Fatuma Zarika (twice), Calista Silgado, Yazmin Rivas, Dahianna Santana (twice), Marilyn Hernandez, Eva Voraberger, Daniela Bermudez and Yamileth Mercardo. Serrano has lost just three times in the last 13 years over a span of 37 fights with all three defeats coming at the hands of Taylor. All of her victories have come by way of stoppage or unanimous decision except for her pro debut which was a four-round majority decision over Jackie Trivilino.

Hanson is 28 years old and fights out of Augsburg, Germany. She is a former kickboxer who makes the ring walk with a mark of 17-2 with 13 Ko’s and has 68 rounds of experience under her belt since making her pro debut back in 2018. She measures just over 5-feet-4-inches tall with an unlisted reach so she gives up an inch in height to Serrano Hanson also possesses good power for the female division as 76.5 per cent of her wins have come by stoppage including seven of her last nine.

The first defeat on Hanson’s record came at the hands of Gabriella Mezei on points over four rounds in 2020. She also lost an eight-round majority decision to Phannarai Netisri in 2021 in a shot at the vacant WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Title. Hanson won the vacant BDB International Super Featherweight Belt in 2021 via a technical unanimous decision over Alina Zaitseva and added the vacant Universal Boxing Federation Featherweight Crown the same year when she halted Ilka Adam in the first round.

In November, 2024 Hanson became a world champion when she captured the vacant WBF Bantamweight Title via a 10-round unanimous decision over Phannaluk Kongsang. Hanson will be taking a big step up in class this weekend though as just six of her 19 opponents entered the ring with a winning record. This will also be her first fight outside of Europe.

Prediction…

Serrano is naturally aggressive but she’s now 37 years old and facing an opponent who possesses quite a bit of power. Hanson was an elite kickboxer who reportedly won several kickboxing world titles as well as a 2019 Professional Kickboxing European Championship. She missed most of 2024 and 2025 due to hand fractures and will put those hands to test this weekend. Hanson is nine years younger than Serrano and of course doesn’t have the same experience. However we all saw last week how a former kickboxer Rico Verhoeven came within a round of beating Oleksandr Usyk. Serrano will likely have her hands full with Hanson but I believe if Serrano punches in volume and stays on the front foot for all 10 rounds she will do enough to win.

Serrano’s aggressiveness and volume punching should do the trick.
