The first race of the Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred racing takes place this Saturday, August 16th at Woodbine Racetrack (post time of 5:34pm EST).
The King’s Plate is often considered the “Kentucky Derby” of Canada and most would agree it’s the biggest race, surrounded by the most fanfare at Woodbine each racing season. This year there are 13 horses competing in the race.
The King’s Plate was known as the Queen’s Plate from 1952 to 2022. This is now the third time after 70 years that the race returns as the King’s Plate, which it was called from 1902 to 1951.
