British fan favourite Dave Allen of Doncaster, England is back in the ring this Saturday, September 5th to take on Tomas Carty. The 10-round heavyweight clash will be held in Carty’s hometown of Dublin, Ireland at Croke Park on the undercard of the Katie Taylor vs Flora Pili tilt. The card can be seen live on DAZN in most nations. Allen was last in the ring in July when he beat Dan Garber on points over four rounds. Carty’s last fight was in March when he beat German Skobenko on points in a six-round battle.

The 30-year-old Carty is a southpaw who enters the ring with a mark of 11-1 with 9 Ko’s. He has boxed just 44 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. He had an extensive amateur career after switching to the sport from Gaelic football as a teenager. He won an Irish Title and the Irish Under-22 National Championship Belt. In addition, he captained the Under-22 Irish National Team. He measures 6-feet-4-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach.
Carty has explosive power in his punches as 81.8 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s 1-1 in his last two fights though without a stoppage. In fact he was halted himself after the second round by Dajuan Calloway in March, 2025. However his corner was forced to end the fight when Carty suffered a knee injury as he tore his ACL. In 2025 Carty won the Boxing Union of Ireland Celtic Heavyweight Belt by stopping Jay McFarlane in the third round. He’ll be taking a step up in class this weekend as just six of Carty’s 12 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.
Allen is now 34 years old and climbs into the squared circle with a mark of 27-9-2 with 20 Ko’s and this will be his fifth fight in 2026. His most memorable appearance this year was a third-round TKO at the hands of Filip Hrgovic in May in a shot at the vacant IBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Belt. he rebounded from that loss with four-round decisions over Ross McGuigan and Dan Garber. In Allen’s first fight of the year in February he stopped Karim Berredjem in just 57 seconds.
Allen made his pro debut in 2012 following his amateur career and has boxed 168 rounds since. He’s got decent size for a heavyweight at 6-feet-3-inches with a 75-inch reach but is an inch shorter than Carty. Allen’s biggest wins have been against former heavyweight belt holder Lucas Browne of Australia when he stopped him in the third round in April, 2019 and his 2025 stoppage of Johnny Fisher.
Before losing to Hrgovic, Allen’s most recent defeat came last October when he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Arslanbek Makhmudov with his opponent being deducted a point in the seventh and 12th rounds for holding. In his previous outing in May, Allen stopped Johnny Fisher in the fifth round of their rematch. The two first met six months earlier when Fisher won a controversial 10-round split decision after being dropped in the fifth round.
The other defeats suffered by Allen were to David Price when he was stopped after 10 rounds in 2019; Tony Yoka by 10th-round stoppage in 2018; a 12-round split decision to Lenroy Thomas in 2017 for the vacant Commonwealth Heavyweight Crown; an eighth-round stoppage to Luis Ortiz in 2016; a 10-round unanimous decision to Dillian Whyte five months earlier in a shot at the vacant WBC International Heavyweight Title and a sixth-round stoppage to Frazer Clarke in 2023 when Allen had to pack it in on the stool after suffering a perforated eardrum.
His two draws were against Plamen Nikolov over four rounds in 2014 and a technical draw with Lenroy Thomas in 2018 for the Commonwealth Title. As we can see, Allen hasn’t had too much success when facing upper-class boxers such as Hrgovic, Makhmudov, Clarke, Whyte and Ortiz and he hasn’t beaten anybody on the world level. Allen has a pair of pretty heavy hands though as 74.1 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage and so have 16 of his past 19 victories. But on the other side of the coin, his chin isn’t the greatest as he’s been halted in four of his eight defeats.
Prediction…
Allen usually comes out swinging and so far it’s been a relatively successful tactic for him due to his power. Of course, he’s also been stopped several times too. This makes it a dangerous fight against Carty because he matches Allen when it comes to power. Allen has a lot of heart though but sometimes that isn’t enough in boxing. Allen and Carty always carry a puncher’s chance but Allen has much more experience against tougher foes. As long as his chin holds up Allen should win this fight due to that experience and if he lets his hands go as he usually does. He could just as easily get stopped though.
Allen has the edge in experience.
