My Pick

The 31-year-old Martin is a southpaw who climbs through the ropes with a fine mark of 19-1-1 with 13 Ko’s. He has 116 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2017. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him reach the 2016 USA National Championship Final and win the 2016 National Golden Gloves Tournament by beating Vergil Ortiz Jr in the final. He also made it to the Golden Gloves semifinals in 2015. Martin measures 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 68-inch reach. He carries pretty good power in his fists as 68.4 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage.

However he has stopped just one of his past five opponents since December, 2022 and is 3-1-1 over that stretch. That KO win came over Rances Barthelemy in the fourth round last December. Martin first made a name for himself on the world stage when he took a big step up in class against Gervonta Davis in 2024. He performed well but was stopped in the eighth round for his lone pro defeat. In his previous bout a year earlier, Martin beat Artem Harutyunyan via a 12-round unanimous decision. He also has wins over Jerry Perez, Ryan Kielczweski, Romero Duno, Jackson Marinez and Michel Rivera.

Tarik Zaina is also 31 years old. He resides in Birmingham, England but now represents Gibraltar and started his career fighting in Mexico. He began his boxing as a young teenager in Gibraltar and then moved to England at the age of 18 and fought as an amateur while attending university. Zaina intended on turning pro in Britain but then the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020. This saw him leave for Tijuana, Mexico, where he officially turned pro in November, 2020. He climbs through the ring ropes with a mark of 18-3-1 with 12 Ko’s and has boxed a total of 121 rounds.

He stopped Marvin Esquierdo in Pakistan in the fourth round in May, 2025 to win the WBA South-Asia Super Lightweight Title. He also had a shot at the WBO Latino Title in 2023 and battled to a 10-round draw with Jesus Saracho. Zaina’s first defeat came at the hands of Rohan Polanco by eight-round unanimous decision in March 2024. He then lost his next fight three months later when he dropped another eight-round unanimous decision to Delante Johnson.

Zaina’s last defeat was to Mohamed Mimoune by 12-round unanimous decision in November, 2025. Zaina stands 6-feet-tall with a 69-inch reach for a four-inch height advantage on Martin as well as an inch edge in reach. As far as power is concerned, he has enough of it to cause some damage as 66.7 per sent of his wins have come by stoppage including four of his past five. Zaina is taking a leap up in class against Martin as just 11 of his first 22 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

Prediction…

Martin has the slight edge in power here but he gives up size. However he has a lot more experience against stiffer opposition as a pro. Zaina has never been stopped but he has been dropped. I’m not expecting him to win this fight but it’s possible that he does last the 10-round distance.

Martin is a class above Zaina at this stage of their careers.
