Veteran heavyweight Otto Wallin of Sweden meets Ukraine’s Vladyslav Sirenko in a 10-round battle this Sunday, July 26th. The fight from New York City can be seen live in the UK and Ireland on Sky Sports while fans in North America can check it out on Paramount +. Wallin’s last fight resulted in a second-round knockout over Chris Thomas and in his previous outing he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Dereck Chisora in an IBF eliminator. Sirenko, who fights out of Staten Island, New York, last saw action a year ago when he lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Solomon Dacres.

Wallin is a 35-year-old southpaw who hails from Sundsvall, Sweden and carries around a record of 28-3 with 16 Ko’s. He now fights out of New York City and has boxed 177 rounds since making his pro debut back in 2013 after a mediocre amateur career. He’s a good-sized heavyweight as he stands just over 6-feet-5-inches tall with a reach of 78 inches. Wallin has decent power in his punches as 57.1 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However he’s halted just three of his last dozen opponents.
One of the biggest problems with Wallin is the quality of opponents he’s faced so far or perhaps I should say his lack of success when stepping up in class. That being said, he did give Tyson Fury all he could handle in September, 2019 in Wallin’s first pro loss. He cut Fury up for 47 stitches along the way but dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to him. Wallin faced Anthony Joshua in 2023 and was stopped in the fifth round and also dropped the unanimous decision to Dereck Chisora.
On the bright side though, he did manage to beat Murat Gassiev by a controversial 12-round split decision in 2023. Wallin stopped Gianluca Mandras in the fifth round in 2017 to lay claim to the vacant WBA Continental Heavyweight Title and a year later he captured the EBE European Heavyweight Crown via a unanimous decision over Adrian Granat. He’s also beaten Rydell Booker, Kamil Sokolowski, Dominic Breazeale, Travis Kauffman, Srdan Govedarica, Raphael Zumbano, Osborne Machimana, Samir Kurtagic and Vladimir Goncharov. Wallin’s a heavyweight hopeful who always has a puncher’s chance no matter who he faces due to his size, decent power and chin.
The 31-year-old Sirenko climbs into the ring with a mark of 22-1 with 19 Ko’s and has just 80 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2017. As an amateur he reportedly compiled a record of 125-25 and captured a silver medal as super-heavyweight at the European Youth Championships in 2013. He also won gold medals at the Ukrainian Youth Championships in 2012 and 2013. The lone pro defeat Sirenko has suffered came at the hands of Solomon Daces by unanimous decision over 10 rounds in his last outing.
Sirenko measures 6-feet-4-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach, so he gives up 1.5-inches in height to Wallin. He does have excellent power in his arsenal as 86.4 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including his last six straight. Sirenko won the vacant WBF International Heavyweight Title in 2018 when he stopped Knife Didier in just 57 seconds. He added the vacant German International Belt in 2019 by halting Leandro Daniel Robutti in 121 seconds and captured the vacant Eurasian Boxing Parliament Title the same year when he halted Ivan Di Berardino in 179 seconds.
The next title in his collection was the vacant WBC Asian Crown in 2020 via a 10-round unanimous decision over Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko. The WBO Asian Pacific Belt was won in 2021 with a sixth-round TKO over Andrii Rudenko. Sirenko also has wins over Laszlo Toth, Marcelo Nascimento, Denis Bakhtov, Kamil Sokolowski and Aleksandr Ustinov. Fourteen of his 23 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.
Prediction…
Wallin has lost two of his last four fights. He looked terrible against Anthony Joshua then bounced back with a quick KO and struggled again against Dereck Chisora, but bounced back again with a quick KO. Sirenko doesn’t like going to the scorecards thanks to his power and he’ll certainly test Wallin’s chin on Sunday night. I expect both boxers to have their moments and this could go either way but I think Sirenko will eventually drop or stop Wallin and earn a victory.
Sirenko’s power could be the difference.
