- Randy Caballero -8500
My Pick
Garcia has just one loss on his record and that came at the hands of Rafael Rivera via an eight-round unanimous decision last October. He bounced back from that setback two months later to beat Richard Voros by a first-round stoppage. His draw came against Jose Rubio over four rounds back in 2011. Garcia turned pro in 2010 and has 98 rounds under his belt since then. Garcia stands 5-feet-6-inches tall and has an unlisted reach. He’s definitely not known as a power puncher and has a knockout ratio of 35 per cent in his 17 contests. Garcia hasn’t faced any top-10 contenders as of yet and will be taking a big step up in class when he meets Caballero.
Caballero captured the vacant IBF Bantamweight Championship in 2014 when he beat Hall. He was scheduled to defend the crown against Lee Haskins last November, but it was called off when Caballero came in 5.5 lbs over the weight limit. The former champ has now fully recovered from foot surgery and is anxious to get back in the ring. He earned his shot at the vacant title against Hall after beating Kohei Oba by an eighth-round stoppage in Japan in April of 2014. He turned pro in 2010 and has 116 rounds under his belt. Caballero is the same height as Garcia at 5-foot-6 and has a 68-inch reach. He also has quite a bit more power since his current knockout ratio is 59 percent.
This is a must-win fight for Caballero if he hopes to get another world title shot. He has the edge in experience and power as well as the hometown fans while Garcia is still only 22 and a loss here likely wouldn’t derail his boxing career. Garcia is a strong and durable fighter with a good chin and this will be the first major test in his pro boxing career.
Prediction……
Caballero may have some ring rust to get through and this could result in a slow start for him. He should be able to handle Garcia’s best shots though and eventually find his legs. Fans should expect to see the former champ make a successful return to the ring with a decision or late stoppage.
Caballero is a big favourite, but cant afford to take Garcia lightly
