There’s an instant rematch on tap in Leeds, England this Saturday, August 8th as Callum Simpson attempts to regain his Commonwealth, European and British Super Middleweight Titles from Troy Wlliamson. The two Englishmen first met last December with Williamson dropping Simpson four times in the 10th round and halting him while trailing on all three judge’s scorecards. The 12-round bout can be seen live in most nations on DAZN. In their previous contests before meeting each other, Simpson was dropped in the first and third rounds but rose from the canvas to stop Ivan Zucco in the 10th round to win the vacant European Belt. Williamson halted Mark Dickinson in the ninth round to capture the vacant English Super Middleweight Crown and snap a three-fight losing skid.

The 34-year-old Williamson hails from Darlington and makes his ring walk with a mark of 22-4-1 with 15 Ko’s. He’s boxed 179 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 following an amateur career which saw him participate in the World Series of Boxing and the English National Championships and win the 2015 ABA Championship as a middleweight. Williamson stands 5-feet-11-inches tall with a reported 75-inch reach so gives up four inches in height to Simpson.
As far as power goes, Williamson has plenty of it as 72.7 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage. However he’s halted just two of his past seven and three of his past nine opponents. He also has a 3-4 record over his past seven fights. The lone draw on his pro record is an eight-round affair with Jack Flatley in June, 2018. Since turning pro he’s also captured the British and vacant IBF European Super Welterweight Titles.
Williamson lost the British Belt to Josh Kelly by 12-round unanimous decision in December, 2022. He also dropped a 10-round split decision to Caoimhin Agyarko 12 months later and a 12-round unanimous decision to Ishmael Davis four months after that. His losing streak reached three fights when Jahi Tucker dropped in in the second and eighth rounds in a 10-round unanimous decision defeat. Williamson also has beaten the likes of David Benitez Ted Cheeseman, Kieran Smith, Mason Cartwright and Dario Socci.
The 29-year-old Simpson from Barnsley, Yorkshire makes the ring walk with a mark of 18-1 with 13 Ko’s and has boxed 87 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019. He’s a former soccer player who reportedly won 38 of his 53 amateur fights. He’s pretty tall for the 168-lb division as he reportedly measures 6-feet-3-inches with a 75-inch reach. As far as power goes, Simpson is also above average as 72.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s halted nine of his past 13 opponents.
Simpson didn’t face an opponent with a winning record until his eighth pro fight and his opponents up until then had a combined record of 47-322-6. In fact, that was the combined record of seven of those eight opponents as BoxRec is unsure who Simpson even faced in his seventh bout. Still, Simpson has won 18 of his 19 bouts with the only recognizable opponents being Williamson, Steed Woodall, Zak Chelli, Elvis Ahorgah and Jose de Jesus Macias. He stopped Woodall in January, 2025 to win the Commonwealth, British and WBO Inter-Continental Super Middleweight Belts.
Prediction…
Simpson was comfortably ahead on all scorecards in the first fight with Williamson until his chin betrayed him. In fact he’s been dropped six times in his last two fights. Still they’re pretty evenly matched when it comes to power. Williamson is five years older but should enter this fight with plenty of confidence. I can see this fight going the same as the first one with Simpson winning the majority of the rounds. If he’s beaten again it will be because Williamson stops him. However this time I have the feeling that Simpson will hang on to regain his belts.
The younger Simpson is slightly better in most departments other than punch resistance.
