Juan Francisco Estrada vs Tenshin Nasukawa Preview April 11th, 2026

There’s a WBC bantamweight eliminator set for Tokyo this Saturday, April 11th as former WBC Super Flyweight Champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico takes on Japan’s Tenshin Nasukawa. The 12-rounder can be seen live on ESPN Knockout in Latin America and Mexico and on Prime Video Boxing in Japan. Estrada last fought in June when he beat Karim Arce Lugo by a wide 10-round unanimous decision. In his previous outing 12 months earlier, Estrada lost his WBC Super Flyweight Crown when Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez stopped him in the seventh round. It was his first fight since December, 2022 when he beat Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez by a controversial majority decision to win the vacant WBC Title. Gonzalez and Estrada also met in March, 2021 with Estrada wining a highly-controversial 12-round split decision. They first squared off in 2012 with Gonzalez taking a 12-round unanimous decision. Nasukawa last boxed in November when he faced Takuma Inoue for the vacant WBC Bantamweight Crown and dropped a unanimous decision.

Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Tenshin Nasukawa +117
  • Juan Francisco Estrada -250

My Pick

The 35-year-old Estrada enters the ring with a record of 45-4 with 28 Ko’s. He’s also a former WBO and WBA Flyweight Champion who first won the WBC Super Flyweight Title in April, 2019 when he edged Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by a close unanimous decision in a rematch. Estrada lost a majority decision to Rungvisai just over a year earlier. Estrada stands 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 66-inch reach which sees him give up an inch in height to Nasukawa as well as 3.5-inches in reach.

Estrada turned pro back in 2008 and has boxed 339 rounds since then after a good amateur career. He’s been stopped just once, by Jesse Rodriguez, and had to get off the canvas in the third round against Carlos Cuadras in 2020 when he looked like he was close to being halted. His other two losses came by way of unanimous decision to Roman Gonzalez in 2012 in his first attempt at the WBA Title and to Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. by an eight-round unanimous decision in 2011.

Estrada has pretty good power in his shots as 62.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he hasn’t stopped any of his last five opponents. The last time he halted anybody was Carlos Cuadras in October, 2020. His biggest wins have been against Gonzalez (twice), Rungvisai, Cuadras (twice), Hernan Marquez, Giovani Segura, Milan Melindo, Brian Viloria, Rommel Asenjo and Richie Mepranum. He reportedly had a 100-15 mark in the amateurs and was the WBO World Flyweight Champ from April 2013 to October 2016 and made five defences. He was the WBA Super World Flyweight Champ at the same time and also defended that belt five times.

Nasukawa is 27 years old and carries around a mark of 7-1 with 2 Ko’s with 62 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2023. The former professional kickboxer and mixed martial artist is generally regarded as one of the greatest ever modern-day kickboxers. He became famous after his KO wins over former IBF world boxing champion Amnat Ruenroeng in 2017 and Muay Thai champion Wanchalong PK Saenchaigym a year earlier. Nasukawa won numerous titles in kickboxing and retired from the sport in July 2022.

The southpaw made his pro boxing debut in April, 2023 when he beat Yuki Yonaha by six round unanimous decision. He beat Luis Guzman Torres via an eight-round unanimous decision five months later and then stopped Luis Robles Pacheco after three rounds. He took another step up in class in July, 2024 and halted Jonathan Rodriguez in the third stanza and then downed Gerwin Asilo and former WBO Bantamweight Champion Jason Moloney by 10-round unanimous decisions.

Nasukawa then beat Victor Sanitllan by 10-round unanimous decision before having his winning streak snapped by Takuma Inoue. The challenger measures 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 69.5-inch reach but doesn’t have overwhelming power as just 28.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s gone the distance in his last four contests. When be beat Gerwin Asilo in October, 2024 Nasukawa captured the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Crown.

Prediction…

The edge has to go the the veteran Estrada as Nasukawa is relatively new to the sport and was outboxed by Takuma Inoue. Estrada is 35 years old however while Nasukawa is 27. This fight will likely go the distance and while it should be a close contest, Estrada’s experience should be the difference maker.

Nasukawa will likely lose his second straight fight.
