Atlanta Falcons -1 @ New Orleans Saints Week 10 Over/Under Play (53.5)

The Atlanta Falcons (8-0) face yet another team with a losing record when they play division foe New Orleans Saints (3-5) this Sunday afternoon.  If the Falcons wish to remain undefeated they will want to avoid underestimating their rival, who has seemingly turned things around since a very rough start winning three of their last 4 games.

Atlanta holds the largest division lead in the NFL sitting 4 games ahead of second place Tampa Bay and 5 games ahead of New Orleans.  Although the Saints have no hope of catching up in the Division, they still have an outside shot at the playoffs and breaking Atlanta’s winning streak would greatly help restore order in the Big Easy.

Atlanta earned another tight victory over the Dallas Cowboys in last week’s installment of Sunday Night Football.  The Falcons scored just one touchdown when Michael Turner ran in a 3-yard score to break the 4th quarter deadlock.  The Falcons last 5 games have all been against teams with losing records and they have not won their 4 home games by more than 6 points.

Drew Brees extended his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 51 with a pair of connections in a 28-13 victory over Philadelphia on Monday night.  Brees is among the league leaders with 2,549 passing yards and 22 touchdown passes.

The Saints are coming off one of their best running performances all year as the trio of Chris Ivory, Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas chalked up 136 yards on the ground, improving upon their league-low average of 72.6. If New Orleans can continue this momentum against a Falcon defense that is giving up 127.5 yards per game on the ground, things will open up for Brees who will benefit from play-action passing.  If this happens expect a high-scoring affair.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints Over 53.5 (betting prediction)

The New Orleans Saints flat out put points on the board.  Atlanta has been involved in some low scoring affairs this season, but they also have a complete arsenal of weaponry for Matt Ryan to choose from and can explode at any time.  The other side of the ball is considerably weaker with each team sitting in the basement of the NFC for running yards allowed per game.

The total has gone over in 6 of New Orleans’s last 9 games when playing Atlanta, and the last 4 meetings have eclipsed the posted total when these rivals meet in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
