NFL Betting for 2011 Season – USA Residents

By NFL

After some uncertainty and definitely a bit of anxiety it is official – the lockout is resolved and there will be a 2011 NFL season.  NFL betting fans everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief.  But hold that sigh just a second.  Just because there is going to be an NFL season, does not mean United States residents will necessarily be able to bet with the same bookie that they have in the past.  The United States government is going after many online gambling websites that allow Americans to bet through there site.  This has forced many popular online sportsbooks to leave the US market, meaning that United States NFL bettors will have to find new NFL football betting websites to take their bets.

Sportsbooks That Have Left the United States

Sportsbook.com, which was a primarily United States facing sportsbook was forced to pull out of the United States market.  This is especially disastrous for the company that was once thought of as the main sportsbook in North America (the term “sportsbook” isn’t even a common word in Europe, where they use the word “bookie” or “bookmaker” for online betting sites).

BetUS.com has also pulled out of the United States market.  This is another big United States bookmaker and as you can tell by the domain name the company was primarily targeting United States residents.  Yet, they still felt the pressure to get out of the American market before being taken down by the government.

Bodog, another big sportsbook that was primarily known in North America, has also announced that they will be leaving the US market at the end of 2011.  This means you will be able to get some NFL bets in prior to Bodog moving, but it is likely much smarter to open up an account at another online bookmaker rather than have to empty out your Bodog wallet near the end of 2011.

Who Is Left?

5Dimes.com – 5Dimes is a great online sportsbook that still accepts United States bettors.  5Dimes generally offers the best odds available online and offers reduced juice on almost every NFL game throughout the season.  This is the bookmaker I would recommend for NFL bettors eager to make a profit this NFL season.

Bookmaker.eu – Bookmaker was forced to change their domain name when the Bookmaker.com domain was seized by the US Government, but Bookmaker has made it clear that they intend to fight to stay in the United States market.  So far they have done a great job with payouts being made on time and the company continuing to run smoothly.

BetOnline – This is a third online sportsbook that looks like they are in the United States market to stay.  BetOnline is a great site and they have grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years and this will likely continue as fewer sportsbooks attempt to claim a portion of the United States market.

To Sum Up

If you are a United States resident and intend on betting on the NFL this upcoming season don’t worry, there are still plenty of bookies that will be eager to have your business.  It is, however, important that you do your research and sign up at a reputable sportsbook, such as one of the three we listed above.  With the competition dwindling it may seem easy to sign up at a “fly by the night” type of bookie.  I urge you not to do this.  Bookmaker.eu is here to stay and if they do get pushed out of the United States you can be sure that a company with as rich a history as theirs will make sure the bettors get everything they are entitled to.
