UFC 155 – Dos Santos Vs. Velasquez II

By MMA

A massive Heavyweight title bout highlights a stacked UFC 155 card to end off a great month of fights. The highly anticipated rematch between champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos, and Cain Velasquez is finally here, and fight fans know that they could be in for a 25 minute brawl, or it could be over as quickly as the first time around. Whichever way it goes, this is bound to be a war between the #1 and #2 giants of the UFC Heavyweight division.

Cain Velasquez (10-1) can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as he finally gets a chance to fight for the UFC Heavyweight Championship again. After defeating Brock Lesnar in devastating fashion at UFC 121 in October of 2010, Cain became the first Mexican UFC Champion ever. His title run was short lived, however, when he had to defend his title against then #1 contender Junior Dos Santos at the first ever UFC on Fox. “Cigano” was able to land a hard right hand, knocking Velasquez to the canvas, ending Cain’s reign as champ in just over a minute of the first round. Cain knew he had to prove a point after that loss, and prove a point he did. He was next scheduled to face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in Silva’s debut in the UFC. While it may have been his UFC debut, it was certainly not his first fight. “Bigfoot” holds career wins over some of the best Heavyweights of all time in MMA, including; Andrei Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko. Many fight reporters thought Cain might have his hands full with “Bigfoot”, but the only thing his hands were full of was Silva’s blood. Cain dominated “Bigfoot” and proved to everyone that he deserves another shot at the UFC Heavyweight championship.

Dos Santos knows exactly how to handle Velasquez, and that’s take the same approach that he took in his first fight. The hype for the last match was so big but the bout lasted a mere 1 minute and 4 seconds. Dos Santos wants to keep the fight standing to give him the best chance of retaining his title. For this camp you can be sure that the champ worked on his takedown defence, which isn’t that bad to begin with, to not allow Velasquez to wrestle the champ down and work his ground and pound like he did on “Bigfoot”. Junior has already been able to impose his will on some of the top contenders of the Heavyweight division; Velasquez, Roy Nelson, Shane Carwin and Fabricio Werdum, and defend his belt against former champ Frank Mir. At only 28 years old it seems now is the time of Junior Dos Santos.
