Junior Dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez

Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez will square off for the UFC Heavyweight Championship in the octagon Saturday November 12th at 9PM in what is sure to be an exciting event. This will be the first time the UFC is airing on mainstream media. It is the first chance for the UFC to show how big it can be, so they will want to put on the best fight possible. UFC president Dana White has stated numerous times that if everyone in the UFC was healthy and he could pick between any 2 fighters, it would be Dos Santos and Velasquez. I can’t say I disagree; they are both incredibly talented fighters who are always looking for the finish.

Junior Dos Santos (13-1, 8 Kos) is coming in as the slight underdog (Best odds: +155 on Bodog.eu). Junior is an incredible striker and just may be the best boxer in the UFC today. He has dominated every opponent he has faced in the UFC. The ones he did not finish (Shane Carwin, Roy Nelson) have left the cage looking like Koscheck did after he faced GSP. Dos Santos has proven he can handle a good wrestler in Shane Carwin, an NCAA division II champion.

Cain Velasquez (8-0, 7 KOs) is coming off a fight in which he mauled Brock Lesnar to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship. In that fight he hurt his shoulder and had to take over a year off, which may work against him in this fight. Cain Velasquez is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the UFC; he has amazing wrestling, an iron chin, good power, and to add to that he has the cardio of a lightweight. He is the favorite (Best odds: -170 at 5Dimes).

I expect a finish in this fight by way of knockout. Cain has had problems with strikers in the past. When he faced Kongo he got dropped 3 times (once in each round), until he found a way to get it to the ground. Dos Santos has better takedown defence and better boxing than Kongo, so I expet him to get some shots in early. Cain will be looking for the takedown once he gets rocked, so if Dos Santos can utilize his TD defence I expect him to take this one. At +175, you are getting great odds at sportsbook.

Prediction: JDS TKO Round 3
