The 2020 Belmont Stakes will look very different from the traditional race. This years Belmont Stakes will be the first race of the Triple Crown, instead of the usual third, due to the fact that the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes were postponed to September and October, respectively. The race will also be reduced from the usual 12 furlongs (1 1/2 miles) to 9 furlongs (1 1/8 miles) due to the fact that the horses just aren’t ready for the long distance of the normal Belmont Stakes after the lack of competition and preparation this year.
The Belmont Stakes should receive the same attention as a normal Kentucky Derby due to it replacing the Derby as the first race of the Triple Crown. NBC is set to broadcast the Belmont Stakes race for 3 hours from 3-6pm EST, and I expect a lot of viewers tuning in.
