Edwards vs Campos Betting Odds

Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Andres Campos +800
  • Sunny Edwards – 1500

My Pick

The 27-year-old Edwards hails from Sutton and enters the fight with a perfect record of 19-0 with 4 Kos. He’s boxed 149 rounds since turning pro in 2016 after a fine amateur career. As an amateur he won a gold medal at the English Junior & Youth National Championships in 2012, a silver at the Great Britain Junior Championships the same year, a gold at the 2013 and 2014 English Junior & Youth National Championships, gold at the 2015 English ABAE National Championships, bronze at the 2016 Gee-Bee Tournament and silver at the English ABAE National Championships in 2016.

Edwards has exceptional boxing skills and he’s needed them so far since he has little in the way of power with a current knockout ratio of just 21.1 per cent. He stands 5-feet-3-inches tall with a 60-inch reach and since turning pro he’s also won the WBO European, WBO International, IBF International, and BBBoC British Super Flyweight Titles.

Edwards hasn’t really fought any elite world class contenders however as his biggest wins have been over Felix Alvarado, Muhammad Waseem, Jayson Mama, Ross Murray, Ryan Farrag, Junior Granados, Thomas Essomba, Marcel Braithwaite and Hiram Gallardo with his stiffest test being Moruti Mthalane, who he beat by unanimous decision for the title in April, 2021. Edwards has fought just three times outside of England as he’s fought twice in Dubai and his pro debut was held in Spain.

The 26-year-old Campos carries around a perfect record of 15-0 with 4 Ko’s and has boxed 101 rounds since making his pro debut back in 2018 after a brief amateur career. He stands just under 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 64.5-inch reach which gives him a half-inch edge in height over the champion and 4.5-inches in reach. Like Edwards, Campos has little power in his punches with a current knockout record of 26.7 per cent.

Campos stopped Ramon Velasquez after six rounds in 2019 to win the Chilean Flyweight Title and added the vacant WBA Fedebol Crown the same year with a nine-round unanimous decision over Jesus Martinez. He went on to take the vacant Latino Flyweight Belt in 2021 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Francisco Gomez Sanchez after dropping him in the fourth round. He’s also beaten Gilberto Pedroza and Jesus Silvestre.

Prediction…

This is a fine matchup between two unbeaten boxers who both lack power, so there’s a good chance this goes the distance. If it does, it’s going to be almost impossible to beat Edwards by decision. First, because he’s fighting in his hometown and secondly because he’s an excellent boxer who rarely loses a round. It’s hard to get Edwards to stand still long enough to hit him due to these slick boxing skills and if he does get tagged he’s got a solid chin even though he’s been dropped before. If Campos can catch him solidly then we may see the title change hands but that’s unlikely. Campos should give him a run for the money though but I seem him falling just short.

A close call with Edwards style and skills being the difference.
