Nikita Tszyu vs Oscar Diaz Preview May 6th, 2026

Unbeaten Nikita Tszyu of Australia is all set to meet undefeated Oscar Diaz of Spain this Wednesday, May 6th. The 10-round junior middleweight fight from Newcastle, Australia can be seen Down Under on Fox Sports, Main Event, and Kayo Sports. Tszyu, the son of former world champion Kostya Tszyu and the younger brother of Tim Tszyu, last fought in January for the vacant WBO International Middleweight Title. However the fight against Michael Zerafa was controversially ruled a no-contest when Zerafa claimed he couldn’t see after the pair clashed heads accidentally. In his previous outing in August, Tszyu he stopped Lulzim Ismaili after the first round for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Junior Middleweight Crown and a year earlier he halted Koen Mazoudier in the ninth round to capture the vacant IBF Australasian and WBO Inter-Continental Junior Middleweight Titles. Diaz last saw action in January as well when he beat Leonardo Di Stefano by a 10-round unanimous decision for the vacant WBC Latino Junior Middleweight Title.

My Pick
The 28-year-old Tszyu is a southpaw who climbs into the ring with a perfect mark of 11-0 with nine of those wins coming by knockout. He obviously carries plenty of power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 81.8 per cent and has halted seven his last eight opponents, not including the no-contest against Zerafa. The two men to go the distance with him were Danilo Creati over 10 rounds in 2024 and Ben Horn, who went six rounds with him in July, 2022 and dropped a six-round unanimous decision. Tszyu turned pro in March of 2022 and has just 51 rounds of experience under his belt since then.
Before that, he enjoyed a brief amateur career which saw him capture the 2014 Australian National Championship in the 63 kilogram (139 lb) Junior Final. He also won the 2013 Junior Final in the 54 kilogram (119 lb) division. Tszyu hung up his gloves at the age of 16 to focus on his education and that’s why he didn’t make his pro debut until the age of 23. The native of Sydney measures 5-feet-10 inches with a 70-inch reach.
The 25-year-old Diaz is a relative unknown but makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 16-0 with 6 Ko’s. He stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted wingspan, so gives up just half-an-inch in height to Tszyu. Diaz has boxed 87 rounds as a pro since making his debut back in 2019. He doesn’t carry much power in his punches as his current knockout ratio stands at 37.5 per cent and he’s gone the distance in his last four fights.
Diaz has never fought outside of Spain as a pro and nine of his 16 opponents entered the ring with a winning record. He won the Spanish Junior Middleweight Belt in 2022 when he stopped Jose Gregorio Suero in the second round. He then added the vacant EBU European Silver Junior Middleweight Title in 2023 when he halted Ezequiel Gurria in the eighth round. Diaz defended the belt against Gurria in an instant rematch five months later and edged him via a 12-round split decision.
Prediction…
Tszyu really hasn’t fought any top-level opposition at this point of his career and he arguably took a step up in class against Zerafa in January but that hotly-disputed Australian grudge match ended in an unsatisfactory manner. Tszyu definitely has the edge in power over Diaz and while this could be a relatively close fight for a few rounds I’m expecting Tszyu to emerge with a victory as Diaz doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay. It’s also quite possible that the fight ends before the 10 rounds are over.
Tszyu’s power and aggressiveness should be the difference.
