Najee Lopez vs Juan Carrillo Preview August 29th, 2026
Unbeaten Najee Lopez of Atlanta, Georgia travels to Los Angeles, California this Saturday, August 29th to take on undefeated Juan Carrillo of Colombia. The 10-round light heavyweight bout can be seen live on ProBox TV. Lopez last fought in March when he stopped Manuel Gallegos in the eighth round to win the vacant WBO Latino Title, which will be on the line against Carrillo this weekend. In his previous outing last September, Lopez halted Kalvin Henderson in the fifth round. Carrillo, who is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, was last in the ring in May when he stopped Marlon Delgado in the fourth round.

The 26-year-old Lopez owns a perfect record of 16-0 with 13 Ko’s and has boxed just 68 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. As an amateur he competed at the 2018 National Golden Gloves Tournament and made it all the way to the final where he was edged by Darius Fulghum via a split decision. He also fought at the 2017 USA Eastern Regional Youth Open Final. He reached the semifinals of the 2016 USA Youth National Championships where he was beaten on points by current heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson.
In addition, Lopez won the 2015 USA Junior Olympics Final. He’s definitely big enough for the light heavyweight division as he stands 6-feet-2-inches with a reported 80-inch reach. He also possesses solid power in his arsenal as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 81.2 per cent. He’s gone the distance just three times in his 16 pro contests.
Just two of Lopez’s opponents have entered the ring with a losing record but he is yet to face a legitimate top-ranked contender as his biggest wins have been against the likes of Gallegos, Steven Sumpter, Marcos Escudero, Christopher Brooker, Anthony Stewart, Gilbert Castillo Rivera and Alex Theran. Lopez took a slight step up in class against the veteran Castillo Rivera in January, 2025 and stopped him in the sixth round.
The 33-year-old Carrillo is a southpaw and he also boasts a perfect pro record as he’s 15=0 with 11 Ko’s. He has fewer pro rounds in the bank than Lopez as he’s got just 60 of them under his belt since turning pro in 2019 following his amateur career. Carrillo had an extensive amateur career and competed in the World Series of Boxing. He lost to Damien Hooper, David Morrell, Carlos Congora and Frank Sanchez as an amateur and beat Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, Rogelio Romero and Liam Williams.
He represented Colombia at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Carrillo is also a good height for the 175-lb division as he’s just over 6-feet-3-inches tall with a 73.5-inch reach. He’s 1.5-inches taller than Lopez, but if Lopez’s reach is accurate Carrillo gives up 6.5 inches in reach to him. He also comes pretty close to Lopez in power as his current knockout ratio reads 73.3 per cent and he’s gone the distance just four times as a pro.
He won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Belt in 2023 with a 10-round majority decision over Richard Vansiclen. He added the vacant IBF Latino Belt in 2024 via a wide unanimous nod over Gilbert Castillo Rivera. Carrillo also has wins over Emilio Julio, Quinton Rankin and Cristian Andres Pena.
Prediction…
Carrillo more or less matches Lopez in height, skills and power and also possess a pretty good chin. The major difference may be the age as Carrillo is seven years older. Neither man is used to going the distance and this fight has the potential for some fireworks. It’s a close call and a stiff test for Lopez but I think he’ll do just enough to pull out a win.
Lopez is younger but this is a stiff test.
