Ramon Cardenas of San Antonio, Texas returns to the ring this Saturday, August 29th to take on Leonardo Carrillo of Colombia. The 10-round super bantamweight contest from Los Angeles, California can seen live on the Pro Box TV app and You Tube channel. Cardenas last saw action in December when he stopped Erik Robles Ayala in the fifth round. In his previous outing in May, 2025 Cardenas dropped undisputed Super Bantamweight Champion Naoya Inoue in the second round but was then decked in the seventh round and halted in the eighth. Carrillo, who fights out of Panama, last saw action in May, 2025 and beat Luis Robles Pacheco via a 10-round unanimous decision.

The 33-year-old Carrillo enters the ring this Saturday with an impressive mark of 20-1-1 with 9 Ko’s. He has 130 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2015. He stands 5-feet-4-inches tall but has an unlisted reach unfortunately. However when it comes to power we do know that he’s below average as 45 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s also gone the distance in five of his last six bouts.
Carrillo’s lone defeat as a pro came at the hands of Mukhammad Shekhov via a wide 10-round unanimous decision in December, 2023. His only other blemish was an eight-round draw with Luis Guerrero in 2018. This will be Carrillo’s first fight in America and just his third outside of Colombia or Panama. His lone defeat came in Russia and he fought once in Argentina. Fourteen of his 22 opponents entered the ring with a winning record. Carrillo has won and defended the WBA-Fedelatin Super Bantamweight Title during his career.
Ramon ‘Dinamita’ Cardenas is 30 years old and makes the ring walk with a fine record of 27-2 with 15 Ko’s. He has boxed 148 rounds since turning pro in 2015. He measures 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 67-inch reach which gives him a two-inch edge in height over Carrillo. He was basically an unknown to many boxing fans until dropping Naoya Inoue last year with a perfectly-timed left hook. As an amateur, Cardenas reached the semifinals of the 2014 USA National Championships and the 2013 USA Youth National Championships.
As far as power goes, Cardenas is just above average as 55.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including five of his past six. His first defeat came back in 2017 at the hands of Danny Flores by way of a 10-round majority decision. He beat Ramsey Luna by a 10-round unanimous decision in 2018 for the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Featherweight Crown and then added the vacant NABA USA Super Bantamweight Belt in 2021 via an eight-round split decision over Angel Antonio Contreras.
In February, 2024, Cardenas beat Israel Rodriguez Picazo for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Bantamweight Title by stopping him after six rounds. Two months later he stopped Jesus Ramirez Rubio in the ninth round to claim the vacant WBA Continental North America Super Bantamweight Belt. He also has wins over Bryan Acosta, Ryan Lee Allen, Eduardo Martinez, Marvin Solano, Michell Banquez and Rafael Pedroza. Seventeen of Cardenas 29 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.
Prediction…
Cardenas didn’t match Inoue in any skill area but certainly made a name for himself with his gutsy effort in last year’s defeat. He has gained plenty of confidence from that fight and is once again hoping to carry the momentum over for this week’s fight. Carrillo can’t be taken lightly even though he lacks power but Cardenas should be able to add another win to his record as long as he lets his hands go the same way he did against Inoue and Ayala in his last two fights.
Cardenas is younger and more powerful.
