Hayato Tsutsumi vs Felix Batista San Juan Preview July 14th, 2026

Unbeaten prospect Hayato Tsutsumi of Japan will be taking on undefeated Felix Batista San Juan of the Dominican Republic this Tuesday, July 14th. The 10-round junior lightweight tilt takes place in Tokyo at the famous Korakuen Hall and can be seen on Lemino in Japan. Tsutsumi last fought in August when he stopped Qais Ashfaq in the third round. He moved up to the junior lightweight division after facing the scorn of the Japanese Boxing Commission as he came in overweight for his featherweight contest against Anselmo Moreno in April, 2024. Since then he has beaten former world champion Rene Alvarado by eighth-round TKO and halted both Jaime Arboleda and Ashfaq in the third round. San Juan last boxed in April when he stopped Pedro Sanchez in the fifth round.

My Pick
The 27-year-old Tsutsumi is another one of Japan’s excellent young prospects and he makes the ring walk with a perfect record of 8-0 with 5 Ko’s. He enjoyed a fine international amateur career and won the 2016 AIBA World Youth Boxing Championships in Russia in the flyweight division and competed at the 2021 World Championships. He made his pro debut in July, 2022 when he beat Jhon Gemino via a wide eight-round unanimous decision.
His second outing was against Pete Apolinar on New Year’s Eve and he won another wide unanimous eight-round decision after dropping Apolinar with a combination earlier in the fight. He then beat Jeo Santisima by 12-round unanimous decision to capture the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Featherweight Title. He stopped Luis Moncion Ventura in the third round and did the same to former world champion Anselmo in his next outing before stopping Alvarado, Arboleda and Ashfaq.
Tsutsumi wasn’t originally known as a power puncher with just two stoppages in his first five fights but he has now halted his last five opponents for a current knockout ratio of 62.5 per cent. He also jumped in right at the deep end as he’s not wasting time fighting four and six-rounders. He went a full 12 rounds in just his third pro contest and now has 48 pro rounds under his belt. Tsutsumi measures just over 5-feet-7-inches tall with an unlisted reach and was born in Chiba but fights out of Tokyo.
As for San Juan, he’s 29 years old and climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 14-0 with 10 Ko’s. He has boxed 61 rounds since making his pro debut back in 2021 and has fought outside of his homeland just once, which was his last outing against Pedro Sanchez. San Juan also packs considerable power in his punches as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 71,4 per cent and he’s stopped nine of his last 10 opponents.
Eleven of San Juan’s 14 opponents entered the ring with a winning record but they were all domestic-level boxers. Therefore he’s stepping up in class against Tsutsumi. there’s no reach and height information available for him, so unfortunately we don’t know how San Juan stacks up size-wise against Tsutsumi.
Prediction…
Tsutsumi is fighting at home and has faced tougher opposition as a pro. Both boxers have good power and will need solid chins in this contest. Tsutsumi should be able to outbox San Juan though if he can’t stop him and I’m expecting him to raise his record to 9-0 on Tuesday, but it could be a bit closer than the odds suggest.
Tsutsumi remains undefeated with another win.
