The WBC Featherweight Belt is up for grabs this Saturday, July 4th as unbeaten champion Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington of Brooklyn, New York battles it out with undefeated Rene Palacios of Mexico. The 12-round tilt from Cleveland, Ohio can be seen live in most nations on DAZN while fans in America can also catch it on TNT and Tru TV. Carrington won the vacant belt in January when he stopped Carlos Castro in the ninth round. In his previous outing in July, Carrington beat Mateus Heita via a 12-round unanimous decision for the interim WBC Title. Palacios last stepped into the ring in January as well when he edged Sulaiman Segawa via a 10-round split decision to capture the vacant NABF Featherweight Belt.

The 29-year-old Carrington owns a perfect mark of 17-0 with 10 Ko’s for a current knockout ratio of 58.8 per cent and has boxed 103 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. He enjoyed a successful amateur career as he captured the 2017 New York City Golden Gloves and 2020 US Olympic Trials. However, instead of waiting for the Covid-delayed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan he decided to embark on a professional career instead. He reportedly went 255-31 as an amateur.
Carrington stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and has gone the distance in three of his last five fights. He won the vacant IBF International, NABF, and WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight Titles in February, 2024 when he stopped Bernard Angelo Torres in the fourth round. He defended all three belts by halting Brayan De Gracia in the eighth round and added the WBC Silver Featherweight\ Crown with a 10-round majority decision over Sulaiman Segawa.
He then halted Enrique Vivas in the third round in March, 2025 to defend his NABF and WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight Titles. Carrington, who was Ring Magazine’s prospect of the year in 2023, has never boxed past 10 rounds, which he has done just once, and all 17 of his opponents entered the ring with a winning record. He’s yet to face an elite-level featherweight however and that trend will continue against Palacios this weekend in this optional title defence.
The 25-year-old Palacios is a southpaw who climbs through the ropes with a near-perfect mark of 19-0-1 with 10 Ko’s. He’s boxed 88 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019 as a teenager. He also possesses average punching power as 52.6 per cent of his victories have been by stoppage and he has gone the distance in four of his last seven outings. There is no reach information available for Palacios so we don’t know he he stacks up in that department against the champion.
However he’s reportedly 5-feet-7-inches tall, an inch shorter than Carrington. He captured the vacant American Boxing Federation West Super Bantamweight Belt in 2021 when he stopped Cristian Izarraraz in the third round. The lone blemish on his record is an eight-round majority draw with Israel Gasparrillo in 2023. This will be Palcaios’ third fight in America and just eight of his 20 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.
Prediction…
Carrington and Palacios are both unbeaten with Carrington having a wealth of amateur experience to go along with his speed and boxing skills. Neither boxer is really known for their power and Palacios doesn’t match Carrington when it comes to overall boxing skills. I’m expecting Carrington to leave the ring with his WBC Featherweight belt this weekend but a stoppage may not be in the cards.
Carrington has the edge in boxing skills and speed.
