Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni Preview June 7th, 2025

Two heavy-hitting unbeaten heavyweights will be going at it this Saturday, June 7th for the vacant WBA Interim Heavyweight Title. British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Fabio Wardley of Ipswich, England will be fighting in his hometown as he takes on Australia’s Justis Huni. The 12-rounder from Portman Road Football Ground can be seen live on DAZN in most nations. Wardley last fought in October when he stopped Frazer Clarke in just 148 seconds in a rematch after they first met in March, 2024 and battled to a draw with the British, Commonwealth and WBO European Heavyweight Belts on the line. Huni’s last bout resulted in a second-round TKO over Shaun Potgieter in January to defend his IBF Pan Pacific and WBO Global Heavyweight belts.

Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Justis Huni +219
  • Fabio Wardley – 295

My Pick

The 30-year-old Wardley climbs into the ring with a near-perfect mark of 18-0-1 with 17 Ko’s and has just 62 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2017. Power is obviously the name of his game as 94.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. The only man other than Clarke to go the distance with him was Jakub Wojkicback in April, 2017 in Wardley’s debut. The Englishman stands 6-feet-5-inches tall with a 78-inch reach and is managed by fellow heavyweight Dillian Whyte.

Wardley won the vacant British Heavyweight Title in August 2020 by stopping Simon Vallily in the third round and has also defended it against Nick Webb, Nathan Gorman and David Adeleye. He also has wins over Eric Molina, Michael Polite Coffie, Daniel Martz, Richard Lartey, Dennis Lewandowski and Chris Healey. He hasn’t really faced any world-class contenders as of yet and is arguably taking a step up in class against Huni this weekend.

Huni is just 26 years old and makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 12-0 with 7 Ko’s and has 78 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2020. Before that he enjoyed a successful amateur career which saw him win a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships and the gold at the 2016 Youth World Championships. As a pro, he stopped his first three opponents but has gone the distance in five of his last nine outings for a current knockout ratio of 58.3 per cent.

Huni captured the Australian Heavyweight Crown in his first pro fight when he stopped Faiga Opelu in the seventh round. He defended it by halting Arsene Fosso in the fourth round, beating Christian Ndzie Tsoye by 10-round unanimous decision and stopping Paul Gallen in the 10th and final stanza. Huni then added the vacant WBO Oriental, IBF Pan Pacific, and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Heavyweight Titles with a 10-round unanimous decision over Joseph Goodall.

He defended all three titles via a 10-round unanimous decision over Kiki Toa Leutele in 2022. He then beat Andrew Tabiti by 10-round unanimous decision in November, 2023 and captured the vacant WBO Global Heavyweight Belt via a 10-round unanimous decision over Kevin Lerena in April, 2024 and defended it by stopping Troy Pilcher in the second round four months later. Huni measures 6-feet-4-inches tall with a 76.5-inch reach, so gives up an inch in height and 1.5-inches in reach to Wardley.

Prediction…

Wardley has enough power to stop just about anybody while Huni arguably possesses the better boxing skills and they both possess pretty solid chins. If this fight comes down to a brawl it will benefit Wardley while a boxing match suits Huni just fine. No outcome will be a surprise here but Huni is really going to have to be impressive to sway the generally home-sided judging and officiating in the UK. Since he’s fighting at home and has greater power I give the edge to Wardley.

Wardley has greater power.
