  • Jeison Rosario – 260

My Pick

The 27-year-old Rosario took the IBF and WBA Jr. Middleweight Titles from Julian ‘ J Rock’ Williams during William’s first defence in January, 2020 when he stopped him in the fifth round but lost them to Jermell Charlo in his first defence when he was stopped in the eighth round in September, 2020. Rosario’s mark now stands at 23-3-1 with 17 Ko’s. His first pro defeat came at the hands of Nathaniel Gallimore by way of sixth-round TKO in April, 2017.

His other defeat was to Erickson Lubin by sixth-round KO in 2021, nine months after losing to Charlo. Rosario’s lone draw was a six-round affair with Mark Anthony Hernandez in February, 2018. He turned pro in 2013 and has 113 rounds of experience under his belt. Since. He has pretty good power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 63 per cent. However, he’s been stopped in all three of his losses so doesn’t appear to have the sturdiest of chins.

Rosario, who fights out of Miami, Florida stands 5-feet-11-inches tall with a 70-inch reach and he’s also beaten Mark Anthony Hernandez, Jorge Cota, Juan Rodriguez, Jamontay Clark, Justin DeLoach and Salim Larbi. Rosario won the vacant Dominican Republic Welterweight Title with a second-round TKO over Jose Vidal Soto in 2014 and the vacant WBA Fedecaribe Super Welterweight Belt with a third-round stoppage of Euri Gonzalez in 2015.

Mendoza is 28 years old and fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He’s boxed 77 rounds since making his pro debut in 2014 following his amateur career. He makes the ring walk with a record of 20-2 with 14 Ko’s with his two defeats coming in his last four bouts. He dropped an eight-round split decision to Larry Gomez in 2019 and a 10-round unanimous decision to Jesus Alejandro Ramos last in September, 2021.

At 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 70-inch reach, Mendoza is an inch shorter than Rosario with the same reach. As far as power goes, he has a current knockout ratio of 63.6 per cent. None of Mendoza’s first 16 opponents entered the ring with a winning record but the last six have. However, hes definitely taking a step up in class this weekend against Rosario.

Prediction…

Rosario definitely has more pro experience against tougher opposition but Mendoza has enough power in his punches to give him some trouble. As long as Rosario can handle that power he has a good chance of coming out of this contest with another victory.

Rosario has the edge in skills and experience but his chin isn’t the sturdiest.
