My Pick

The 35-year-old Gausha enjoyed a fine amateur career and represented the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He’s a former Golden Gloves and National Champion but was eliminated at the Olympics after two bouts. Gausha will climb through the ropes with a mark of 22-3-1 with 11 Ko’s. He stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 73.5-inch reach and gave Tszyu a hard time of it last year when he lost by scores of 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111.

Gausha turned pro back in 2012 after the Olympics and has boxed 160 rounds since. His first loss came to Erislandy Lara by unanimous decision in October, 2017 in a shot at the WBA and IBO world titles and his second defeat came at the hands of Erickson Lubin via a 12-round unanimous decision in September, 2020. That entertaining tilt was for the vacant WBC Silver Super Welterweight Title and his lone draw was a 10-round affair with Austin Trout in 2019.

Gausha’s biggest wins have come against Charles Whittaker, Luis Grajeda, Joey Hernandez, Luis Hernandez and Eliezer Gonzalez. He doesn’t really have much one-punch power in his fists as he possesses a current knockout ratio of 42.3 per cent. His power shouldn’t be taken lightly though, especially when combined with his speed. Gausha has a pretty good chin and boxing skills and proved it against Tszyu last year.

Lynch is 31 years old and makes the ring walk with a mark of 13-1-1 with 9 Ko’s. He’s boxed 50 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017 following a brief amateur career. He stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 72-inch reach which puts him at the same height as Gausha, but he gives up 1.5-inches in reach. As far as power goes, Lynch is slightly above average as his current knockout ratio stands at 56.3 per cent.

The lone loss on Lynch’s record came at the hands of Taif Harris by way of a second-round KO in 2017. His lone draw was an eight-round affair with Marcos Hernandez in January, 2021 and the then beat him by eight-round unanimous decision in a rematch just over a year later. Lynch also has a couple of no-contests in the books as he fought Ricardo Arce Sarmiento in Mexico in March, 2019 while Sarmiento was under suspension. He then fought Luciano Hernandez Garcia a few months later in Mexico and that was also a no-contest.

Prediction…

Gausha is a solid pro with plenty of experience while Lynch has fought just three opponents who entered the ring with a winning record and has never gone past eight rounds before. Inactivity won’t help Gausha but I’m expecting him to take care of Lynch with out too much problem. He does need to be aware that Lynch has decent power though.

Gausha has experience and speed on his side.
