Angel Fierro vs Oscar Duarte Preview May 2nd, 2026

It’s an all-Mexican junior welterweight clash this Saturday, May 2nd as Oscar Duarte and Angel Fierro go at it over 10 rounds. The fight can be seen live from Las Vegas, Nevada on Amazon Prime PPV. Fierro last fought in October when he was disqualified in the third round against Abraham Cordero for kicking him. It was his second straight loss as he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Isaac Cruz eight months earlier. Duarte last boxed in August when he just got past Kenneth Sims Jr. via a 12-round majority decision.

  • Oscar Duarte -900

My Pick

Fierro is 27 years old and makes the ring walk with a 23-4-2 record with 18 Ko’s and has fought 134 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015 as a teenager. He stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 70-inch reach which means he gives up two inches in height and an inch in reach to Duarte. However, he slightly exceeds Duarte when it comes to power as 78.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including nine of his past 10. He’s just 1-3 in his past four fights though.

The first defeat suffered by Fierro came at the hands of Alex Martin by way of an eight-round majority decision in 2020. His second loss was to Alfredo Santiago by 10-round unanimous decision in June of 2024 in a shot at the vacant WBO NABO Junior Welterweight Title. Fierro had previously won the vacant WBO NABO Lightweight Belt in 2021 with a sixth-round KO over Alberto Machado and defended it four times.

Fierro’s two draws were a six-round affair with Jorge Luis Zapoteco in 2017 and a 10-round contest with Juan Carlos Burgos in 2022. He also has wins over Alexis Reyes, Cristian Bielma, Jeremy Cuevas and Brayan Zamarripa Rodriguez. His record may be a little deceiving as just 13 of his 29 opponents entered the ring with a winning record and he beat just seven of them.

The 30-year-old Duarte enters the fight with a mark of 30-2-1 with 23 Ko’s and has fought 175 rounds since turning pro as a teenager back in 2013. He has quite a bit of power in his fists as 76.7 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including 14 of his last 16. He was taken the distance by Botirzhon Akhmedov in November, 2024 but that was the first time since he lost to Adrian Estrella via a 10-round split decision in 2019 in a shot at the vacant WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Title.

His second and last defeat came at the hands of Ryan Garcia in December, 2023 when he was stopped in the eighth round. Duarte’s lone draw was a four-round split decision with Roberto Garcia in 2014. He stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 71-inch reach. His best wins have been against Sims, Akhmedov, Joseph Diaz, Juan Jose Montes, Rey Perez, former world champion Roger Gutierrez, Nestor Armas Hernandez, Humberto de Santiago and Javier Franco. He also stopped Andres Garcia in the fifth round in 2020 to win the vacant NABF Lightweight Title.

Prediction…

Duarte and Fierro are more or less known for their power and Duarte has experience against stiffer opposition on his side. While I can envision Fierro putting in a workmanlike performance here I believe the only way he wins this fight is to stop Duarte. It’s possible of course, but I’d be surprised if it happens. I like Duarte’s chances in this contest and it could go the distance.

Duarte has the better boxing skills.
