The WBO Lightweight Belt is on the line this Saturday, July 4th as undefeated Abdullah Mason of Bedford, Ohio dukes it out with unbeaten Albert Bell of Toledo, Ohio. The 12-rounder from Cleveland can be seen live on DAZN pay-per-view as well as TNT in America. Mason last fought in November when he beat Sam Noakes via a unanimous decision for the vacant WBO Title. In his previous outing last June he stopped Jeremia Nakathila after five rounds to defend his NABF, and WBO NABO Lightweight Titles. Mason had won both vacant belts just two months earlier when he stopped Carlos Ornelas after six rounds. Bell last entered the ring in August when he beat Keith Hunter by a 10-round unanimous decision for the vacant IBF International, and NABA Lightweight Belts.

The 22-year-old Mason enters the ring with a perfect mark of 20-0 with 17 Ko’s and has boxed 71 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. As an amateur he captured the 2017 National Junior Championships; the 2017 and 2018 Eastern Regional Open; the 2018 and 2019 Junior Open and a 2021 USA Boxing Youth National Title and reportedly had a final record of 65-15. The southpaw stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 74-inch reach.
When it comes to power, Mason possesses quite a bit of it as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 85 per cent and just three of his opponents have managed to go the distance with him. These were Angel Rebollar over four rounds in 2022; Cesar Villarraga over six rounds in 2023 and Sam Noakes over 12 rounds in his last outing in November. He was riding a 10-fight knockout streak before running into Noakes. Mason has never fought outside of North America as a pro and has faced mainly domestic level opposition. When he beat Noakes last year he became the current youngest male world champion.
As for Bell, he’s 33 years old and has 165 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2013. He makes the ring walk with a perfect 28-0 record with 9 Ko’s. Bell also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he won the 2012 National Golden Gloves event. He measures six-feet-tall with a 74-inch reach for a three-inch height advantage over Mason but gives up an inch in reach. Bell lacks power in his arsenal though as his knockout ratio stands at 32.1 per cent. However he has stopped three of his past five opponents.
Bell won the WBC WBC Continental Americas Super Featherweight Belt in 2019 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Andy Vences and added the vacant WBO NABO Super Featherweight Title in 2022 via a unanimous 10-round nod over Nicolas Polanco. Like Mason, Bell has never fought outside of America as a pro. He hasn’t taken on any legitimate contenders as of yet but has wins over Jayson Velez and Jonathan Romero.
Prediction…
This world title fight is basically between a young prospect against an established veteran as Bell is 11 years older than Mason. He’s also a late replacement for former super featherweight world champion Joe Cordina of Wales, who was denied a visa for the USA after facing assault charges in his homeland. Mason has the big edge in power but he has been dropped as a pro so he doesn’t have an invincible chin. However Bell may not have the power to take advantage of it. Overall though, Mason is the better boxer with good footwork and should be able to retain his title even though he may have to go the distance to do so.
Mason has better overall skills.
