Mariusz Wach vs Tyson Fury Preview July 24th, 2026
Former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury of England returns to the ring this Friday July 24th to take on veteran Mariusz Wach of Poland. Fury last boxed in April when be beat Arslanbek Makhmudov via a wide 12-round unanimous decision in a pretty dreadful fight. It was Fury’s first contest since December, 2024 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch. They first met seven months earlier with the unbeaten Usyk winning a split decision to take Fury’s WBC Belt, which he won in 2020 by stopping Deontay Wilder. Wach last saw action in March when he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Viktor Vykhryst in a shot at the WBO European Heavyweight Title. This weekend’s fight comes from from Pattaya, Thailand.

Wach is a 46-year-old veteran and oddly enough is the smaller boxer here as he’s just over 6-feet-7-inches tall with a wingspan of 82 inches. He makes the ring walk with a record of 39-13 with 20 Ko’s. He turned pro back in 2005 and has quite a bit of experience under his belt with 312 rounds to his name. He’s definitely in the twilight of his career though as he’s lost 12 of his last 20 fights going back to 2017. He isn’t known as a power puncher as 51.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he doesn’t own the sturdiest chin either as he’s been stopped in five of his 13 defeats.
Along with being halted by Jarrell Miller in nine rounds in 2017, he was also stopped by Alexander Povetkin by 12th-round TKO in 2015. In addition, he was stopped in eight rounds in 2019 by Martin Bakole for the vacant Polish International Heavyweight Title and Arslanbek Makhmudov fi ished him in the sixth round in 2022. His latest KO defeat came at the hands of Moses Itauma in 2024 when he was stopped in the second round in a crack at the WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight Belt.
Wach once had a shot at a world title but dropped a unanimous decision to Wladimir Klitschko in 2012. His other losses were a 10-round split decision to fellow countryman Artur Szpilka in 2018; a 10-round unanimous decision to Dillian Whyte in 2019; a 10-round unanimous decision to Hughie Fury in 2020; a 10-round unanimous decision to Kevin Lerena in September, 2022; and a 10-round points decision to Frazer Clarke in 2023; a 10-round unanimous decision to Kacper Meyna in 2025 in a shot at the Polish Heavyweight Crown and his defeat to Viktor Vykhryst in his last outing in March.
Most of Wach’s other opponents have mainly been journeymen such as Kevin McBride, Tye Fields, Galen Brown, Jason Gavern, Julius Long, Arthur Cook, Travis Walker and Marcelo Luiz Nascimento. Wach, who has also participated in mixed martial arts, had a good amateur career and was a Polish National Champion. He won a silver medal at the European Union Championships and was an Olympic alternate for Poland in 2004. Since turning pro he’s captured the IBF East/West Europe, WBC International, WBC Baltic, TWBA, and Polish International Heavyweight Titles.
Fury is almost 10 years younger at the age of 37 and the native of Manchester, is best known for his controversial trilogy against Deontay Wilder (two wins and a draw) and his two straight defeats at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. His only other true moment of glory as a pro boxer came in 2015 when he upset an aging Wladimir Klitschko by unanimous decision to win the IBF, WBO, IBO, WBA and Lineal World Titles. However it was arguably the worst heavyweight title fight in history. After beating Klitschko, Fury was soon stripped of his belts and suspended for drug use, but did still lay claim to the lineal crown as well as the WBC version until Usyk beat him.
Fury is also one of the bigger heavyweights as he measures 6-feet-9-inches tall with a wingspan of 85 inches which gives him advantages of 1.5-inches in height and three inches in reach on Wach. He’ll enter the ring with a mark of 35-2-1 with 24 Ko’s and has 266 rounds under his belt since turning pro in 2008 following a good amateur career. He owns better-than-average power as 68.6 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage but has gone the distance in eight of his last 14 outings. Fury possesses good, but awkward and unconventional boxing skills and has been been dropped by Usyk, Steve Cunningham, Neven Pajkic, Francis Ngannou and Wilder during his career which makes his chin a bit of a question mark as well.
Fury’s biggest wins were over Wilder and Klitschko but Klitschko basically gave his titles away by not engaging with him. Other than that, he’s also beaten some pretty good boxers and journeymen along the way such as Dereck Chisora (three times), Dillian Whyte, Francesco Pianeta, Otto Wallin, Christian Hammer, Joey Abell, Cunningham, Kevin Johnson, Marcelo Luiz Nascimento and Vinny Maddalone. Since turning pro Fury has also captured the English, Commonwealth, British, Irish, European, WBO Inter-Continental and WBO International Heavyweight Titles.
Prediction…
This is supposedly a tuneup fight for Fury ahead of a showdown with Anthony Joshua, but the choice of opponent has still been heavily criticized. Fury has the edge in size, boxing skills, age and power. He owns a bit of an unreliable chin though, but unless Wach lands a perfect punch on it, there’s no cause for concern. Also, keeping Fury on the canvas if you put him there could be a bit of a problem as he has pretty quick recovery powers with a habit of getting up just before the count reaches 10. If you have him in trouble you need to make sure you don’t let him off the hook like Cunningham, Usyk, Wilder and Francis Ngannou did. Anything’s possible here as it’s a heavyweight fight but Fury’s boxing skills will likely make it pretty difficult for Wach and he’ll probably cruise to victory in a bit of a snoozefest.
