  • Tomoya Tsuboi -1500

My Pick

The 36-year-old Guevara makes the ring walk with a mark of 43-5-2 with 22 Ko’s and has boxed 352 rounds since turning pro in 2008. He measures 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 67-inch reach for a three-inch reach advantage over Tsuboi as well as an inch in height. When it comes to power, 51.2 per cent of Guevara’s wins have come by stoppage but he’s gone nine bouts without a stoppage with the last one coming in 2021. The first pro defeat for Guevara came at the hands of former world champion John Riel Casimero by split decision in 2012 in a shot at the IBF Light Flyweight Title after being dropped in the first round.

He dropped another split decision in 2015 when Yu Kimura beat him for the WBC Light Flyweight Belt. He had a another shot at that title in 2017 but lost a majority decision to Kenshiro Teraji. Guevara dropped a split decision to Carlos Cuadras in November, 2023 in an attempt at the vacant WBC Interim Super Flyweight Title. He then captured the interim WBC Super Flyweight Title in May, 2024 with a split decision over Andrew Moloney but lost it when he was stopped by Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez in the third round in November, 2024.

Guevara also hoisted the vacant WBC Light Flyweight Belt in 2014 when he stopped Akira Yaegashi in the seventh round in Japan. He defended it against Richard Claveras and Ganigan Lopez before losing it to Yu Kimura. During his career Guevara has also won the vacant WBC Silver and NABA Light Flyweight Belts as well as the WBC Fecarbox Super Flyweight Title. He also has victories over Karlius Diaz, Manuel Jiminez, Raul Garcia, Ruben Montoya Ramirez, Roberto Sanchez Cantu, Miguel Angel Herrera and Marvin Solano while his other draw was a 12-round affair with Mario Rodriguez in defence of his WBC Silver Title.

Tsuboi is 30 years old and makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of just 3-0 with 2 Ko’s after turning pro in March of last year. He stopped Boonrueang Phayom in the second round of his pro debut and then beat Van Thao Tran by 10-round unanimous decision for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Belt. His last outing saw him stop former world champion Carlos Cuadras. Tsuboi enjoyed a fine amateur career as he struck gold at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

He also won bronze medals at Asian Games and Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in 2022. he stands 5-feet-3-inches tall with a 64-inch reach. It’s a bit hard to tell how much power he has after just three pro contests but his current knockout ratio clocks in at 66.7 with two of his three fights ending in stoppage. Tsuboi has basically jumped feet first into the deep end as a pro by taking on former world champions in his third and fourth contests.

Prediction…

Guevara is nearing the twilight of his career at the age of 36 and is just 3-2-1 in his last half dozen fights. He has a wealth of experience and has been through a few wars while Tsuboi is taking the fast track as a pro. He’ll be entering the ring for just the fourth time as a pro and will be boxing at home. He obviously comes in second best in experience but he did have an extensive amateur career. Tsuboi will climb the rankings if he wins again and will gain some valuable experience even with a loss or draw. Guevara doesn’t appear to have the power to stop Tsuboi at this stage of his career and while I think the odds are a bit too wide, I’m expecting Tsuboi to come out on top due to his power and skills.

Tsuboi has the edge in skill and power.
