Regis Prograis vs Conor Benn Preview April 11th, 2026

Former WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Regis Prograis of New Orleans is back in the ring this Saturday, April 11th to take on Conor Benn of England. The 10-round junior middleweight contest from London can be seen live in most nations on Netflix. Prograis last fought in August when he beat former world champion Joseph Diaz via a 10-round unanimous decision. In his previous outing he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Jack Catterall in a shot at the vacant WBO International Junior Welterweight Title for his second consecutive defeat. Catterall was dropped in the fifth round and Prograis was down twice in the ninth. Ten months before that Prograis lost a shutout unanimous decision to Devin Haney to lose his WBC Title and was dropped in the third round. Benn’s last two fights were against former IBO Middleweight and Super Middleweight Champion Chris Eubank Jr. The two first met in a slugfest last April with Eubank winning by unanimous decision to hand Benn his lone defeat as a pro. Benn then won the rematch by unanimous decision seven months later.

My Pick

The 37-year-old Prograis was born in New Orleans and fights out of Houston, Texas. He makes the ring walk with a mark of 30-3 with 24 Ko’s. He won the interim WBC Junior Welterweight Title when he stopped Julius Indongo in the second round in March, 2018 and then won the vacant WBC Diamond belt against Juan Velasco with an eighth-round stoppage four months later. He defended against Terry Flanagan and Kiryl Relikh and also won the WBA belt with the win over Relikh.

He then ran into IBF Champion Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series Final in October, 2019 and was edged by a majority decision for first pro defeat. He bounced back with knockout wins over Juan Heraldez, Ivan Redkach and Tyrone McKenna and then stopped Jose Zepeda in the 11th round in November, 2022 to win the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight Crown. He defended it via a split decision over Danielto Zorrilla in June, 2023 and then lost it to Devin Haney six months later.

Prograis enjoyed a fine amateur career and has also won the NABF Junior Super Lightweight Title and NABF Super Lightweight Crown since turning pro in 2012. He’s boxed a total of 182 rounds since then and stands 5-feet-8-inches tall, the same as Benn, with a 67-inch reach, which is an inch shorter than Benn’s. The most noticeable thing about Prograis is obviously the 24 Ko’s in his 30 victories which translates into a current knockout ratio of 80 per cent in his wins. Prograis is a dangerous puncher who isn’t really interested in hearing what the judges have to say about his fights but he’s also a pretty good boxer.

However he’s gone the distance in his last four fights and has lost two of them. Along with beating Zepeda, Indongo, Relikh, Velasco, Redkach and Flanagan, he’s also beaten the likes of Joel Diaz Jr., Luis Eduardo Florez, Aaron Herrera, Abel Ramos, and Hector Velazquez. Prograis was interested in a rematch with Josh Taylor at one point to avenge his first pro loss but Taylor recently retired due to an eye problem.

As for Benn, he’s eight years younger at 29 and fought as an amateur in Australia with 20 wins in 22 contests before turning pro in 2016. Since then he’s boxed 130 rounds and has compiled a fine record of 24-1 with 14 Ko’s with his only defeat coming to Eubank. He also has pretty good power in his fists as 58.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but has gone the distance in his past four fights and in five of his last seven.

Benn has a pretty solid chin but has been on the deck as a pro when Cedrick Peynaud dropped him twice in the first round back in 2017. However, Benn picked himself up from the canvas and returned the favour in the fifth and sixth rounds to earn a six-round decision. The two met again a year later with Benn taking a 10 round unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBA Continental Welterweight Title.

He’s defended it six times as he stopped Jussi Koivula and Steve Jamoye, beat Sebastian Formella by decision and then stopped Samuel Vargas in just 80 seconds in 2021 and took a 10-round unanimous decision over Adrian Granados five months later before stopping Chris Algieri in four and Chris Van Heerden in two. Benn was brought along relatively slowly to start his career and didn’t really face a legitimate world contender until meeting Eubank. And let’s not forget this is just his sixth fight since December 2021 when he halted Chris Algieri.

Prediction…

This is a being listed as a junior middleweight bout at 154 lbs but reportedly has a 150 lb catchweight. Prograis has never weighed more than 151 lbs for a fight, which he did way back in 2013. He’s fought most of his career as a 140 lb junior welterweight. Benn has fought mainly as a 147 lb welterweight but weighed 156 lbs and 159 lbs for his last two fights against Eubank. Benn is younger and fighting at home but doesn’t have the pro experience that Prograis does. As long as Benn can handle Prograis’ power he should do enough to beat the aging veteran but the odds should be a bit closer than they are.

Been has youth on his side and is fighting at home.
