My Pick
Hernandez, who fights out of Providence, Rhode Island, is 28 years old and enters the contest with a perfect record of 9-0 with 8 Ko’s. He’s boxed 44 rounds since making his pro debut in 2022 following a successful amateur career. As an amateur he won the 2021 and 2023 IBA World Championships as a middleweight and the 2022 Cologne World Cup Tournament. As a pro, he’s currently ranked number one by the WBA and number four by The Ring Magazine.
There’s obviously plenty of power in Hernandez’s punches as 89 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s gone the distance just once as a pro and that was in May, 2025 when he beat Kyrone Davis by a shutout over 10 rounds and also dropped him in the second round. However, Davis is likely the only opponent of Hernandez that most boxing fans will recognize and he’ll be taking a step up in class this weekend. Hernandez stands 6-feet-3-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach.
The 37-year-old Gausha also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he represented the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He’s a former Golden Gloves and National Champion but was eliminated at the Olympics after two bouts. Gausha, who fights out of Encino, California, will climb through the ropes with a mark of 24-5-1 with 12 Ko’s. He measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 73.5-inch reach which sees him give up four inches in height to Hernandez. Gausha is probably best known as a pro for his 2022 fight against Tim Tszyu for the WBO Global Super Welterweight Title in which he lost by scores of 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111.
Gausha turned pro back in 2012 after the Olympics and has boxed 199 rounds since. His first loss came to Erislandy Lara by unanimous decision in October, 2017 in a shot at the WBA and IBO World Super Welterweight Belts and his second defeat came at the hands of Erickson Lubin via a 12-round unanimous decision in September, 2020. That entertaining tilt was for the vacant WBC Silver Super Welterweight Title. His defeats to Lata, Lubin, Tszyu, Adames and Elijah Garcia showed that he can compete with world class boxers but falls just short when doing so. His lone draw was a 10-round affair with Austin Trout in 2019.
Gausha’s biggest wins have come against Charles Whittaker, Luis Grajeda, Joey Hernandez, Luis Hernandez and Eliezer Gonzalez. He doesn’t really have much one-punch power in his fists as half of his wins have come by knockout and he’s gone the distance in nine of his past 12 fights. His power shouldn’t be taken lightly though, especially when combined with his speed. Gausha has a pretty solid chin and boxing skills and has proven it so far against top class opposition. However he’s likely in the twilight of his career at the age of 37.
Prediction…
Hernandez is known for his boxing skills and power while Gausha is known for his skills and solid chin. Hernandez is nine years younger though and if he doesn’t knock you out he definitely has the skills to outbox you. Gausha’s experience and chin may enable him to last the full 10 rounds and he may even keep things pretty close for several rounds. However, I’m taking Hernandez to win this fight either way.
Hernandez combines skill and power.
