My Pick
The 29-year-old Collazo is a southpaw who resides in Puerto Rico and has 78 rounds of experience to his name since making his pro debut in 2020 following a fine seven-year amateur career which saw him win five national amateur titles as well as a bronze medal the 2017 PanAmerican Championships and a gold disc at the 2019 Pan American Games. He’s gone a perfect 13-0 as a pro with 10 Ko’s and stands 5-feet-2-inches tall with a 61-inch reach.
Collazo won the vacant WBO Latino Minimumweight title in his fourth pro outing when he halted Pedro Villegas in the third round and captured the world title in his seventh fight with the stoppage of Jerusalem. Collazo has heavy hands for such a small boxer as his current knockout ratio stands at 76.9 per cent. The only three men to go the distance with him have been Francisco Zambrano over six rounds in 2021; Vic Saludar over 12 rounds in July, 2022 and Gerardo Zapata in 12 in June, 2024. Both Saludar and Collazo hit the deck in the seventh round in their contest.
Haro is just 23 years old with a mark of 13-3 with just 2 Ko’s and has boxed 102 rounds since making his pro debut in 2020 as a teenager. He also measures 5-feet-2-inches tall with an unlisted reach so is the same height as Collazo. As far as power is concerned, Haro is clearly lacking in this area as just 15.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. Both of his stoppages came in his last five fights, but he has a 3-2 record in that span.
Haro began boxing as a youngster and boxing runs in his family. His father operates a boxing gym and his younger brother Daniel is also a pro boxer. As an amateur, Haro reportedly went 100-8 record and won a total of 23 national titles including the 2019 USA Youth National Championships. Since turning pro he won the WBC Youth World Minimumweight Belt in 2022 by a 10-round split decision over Erick Nogueda Araujo.
The first defeat in Haro’s pro career came in his debut when he dropped a four-round split decision to Jonathan Pinedo Castaneda. He didn’t lose again until 2024 when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Wilfredo Mendez and he then dropped an eight-round unanimous nod to Gustavo Perez Alvarez the same year. His biggest wins have been against Lito Dante and Gabriel Ponce. Just eight of his 16 pro opponents have entered the ring with a winning record.
Prediction…
This fight comes down the the hard-hitting Collazo against the light-hitting Haro. Both boxers have fine skills with Haro having speed and good counter-punching ability but the champion has a lot more experience against tougher opposition. I’m expecting Collazo to hang onto his title here as Haro simply doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay for 12 rounds. I’m expecting a stoppage for Collazo but the odds are a bit wide for a simple victory.
Collazo’s experience against tougher opposition and power are the keys.
