My Pick
Nakano is a 30-year-old southpaw who climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 14-0 with 13 Ko’s. He’s boxed 47 rounds since turning pro in 2018 following an amateur career which saw him reach the quarterfinals of the 2015 President’s Cup tournament. He also represented the Tokyo University of Agriculture in the ring and reportedly captured several Japanese domestic titles and compiled a record of 68–8. Makano measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 65.5-inch reach.
As far as power goes, Nakano is close to being perfect as 13 of his 14 bouts have ended by stoppage for a current knockout ratio of 93 per cent. The only time he’s gone the distance was in 2020 in his fifth pro fight when he beat Ruito Saeki via an eight-round unanimous decision. He’s fought just once outside of his homeland though as he stopped Pedro Marquez Medina in the fourth round in Lass Vegas in May. Nakano won the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Featherweight title in September, 2024 when he halted Bryx Piala in the fourth round.
As for Aleem, he’s 35 years of age and makes the ring walk with a fine record of 22-1 with 12 Ko’s. He has 134 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2011. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him reach the 2007 and 2011 National Golden Gloves quarterfinals as well as the 2009 and 2010 semifinals. Aleem stands 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 68.5-inch reach, which sees him give up an inch in height to Nakano while possessing a three-inch reach advantage. The lone defeat in Aleem’s pro career came at the hands of Sam Goodman by 12-round split decision in 2023 down in Australia.
When it comes to power goes, Aleem has decent pop in his punches as 54.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he’s gone the distance in his last five outings after stopping his seven previous opponents. He won the WBA interim Super Bantamweight Title in January, 2021 when he stopped Vic Pasillas in the 11th round and captured the vacant WBO NABO Super Bantamweight Belt 10 months later with a 10-round majority decision over Eduardo Baez. He beat Mike Plania via a 10-round unanimous decision after dropping him in the second round to defend his WBO NABO Super Bantamweight Crown and also has wins over Derrick Wilson, Adam Lopez and Marcus Bates.
Prediction…
Aleem is 35 years old now and has the edge boxing skills as well as pro experience. It’s going to be hard to win on points in Japan however so Aleem really needs to turn up the heat here. He’ll need to work hard and let his hands go but can’t afford to make any mistakes as he’s facing a pure power puncher in Nakano. While Nakano has the advantage of fighting at home he’s taking a big leap in class against Aleem. This fight will come down to Nakano’s power and Aleem’s ability to handle it. It’s going to be a tough task for Nakano and I think he needs to stop Aleem to beat him.
This is a stiff test for Nakano.
