  • David Stevens +350
  • Darius Fulghum -500

My Pick

Stevens is just 25 years old and enters the contest with a mark of 15-2 with 10 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2018 as a teenager after a fine amateur career which saw him reportedly go 60-8. He was a two-time Junior Olympic Gold Medalist, a Silver Gloves Champion, the Ringside World Champion, the 2017 USA Boxing Youth National Champion, a 2018 Emil Jechev Memorial Tournament gold medalist, a 2018 Youth Continental Championships gold medalist and a 2018 Youth World Championships qualifier.

Stevens has just 68 rounds of pro experience under his belt due to his power, which is above average as 66.7 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage, including four of his past seven. He’s gone the distance in his last two fights and has a 2-2 record in his past four outings. The first defeat on his record came at the hands of Joeshon James, who stopped him in just 172 seconds in October, 2023. Stevens measures just over 5-feet-11-inches tall with an unlisted reach. His biggest wins have been against Jaime Barboza, Sean Hemphill and Marco Antonio Periban.

As for Fulghum, he’s 29 years old and enters the contest with a 14-1 record with 12 Ko’s and only 65 rounds of pro experience since making his debut in 2021 after a fine amateur career. He’s a 2018 National Golden Gloves winner and participated at the 2020 USA Olympic Team Trials. Fulghum has a nursing degree from Prairie View A&M University and has wins over the likes of Alantez Fox, Cristian Olivas, Vaughn Alexander, and Christopher Pearson last year alone.

At 6-feet-1-inch tall with an unlisted reach, Fulghum is 1.5-inches taller than Stevens. He also has more power as 85.7 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. The only opponents to go the distance with him were Melikuziev, Alantez Fox, who he beat by 10-round majority decision last year and Vaughan Alexander, who also went 10 rounds with him last year in a unanimous decision victory for Fulghum. He took a bit of a step up in class in his last outing against Melikuziev and was dropped in the final round and lost 114-112 on all three scorecards.

Prediction…

Fulghum and Stevens are both fine boxers with good power and amateur experience. Fulghum arguably has the better overall boxing skills but this is a pretty close matchup. This fight is up for grabs for whoever takes the initiative and I believe that will be Fulghum.

Fulghum has a bit more power and skill.
