My Pick
Jesse Hart is a 36-year-old former amateur standout, U.S. Olympic alternate and Golden Gloves Champion. He turned pro back in 2012 and has racked up a record of 31-3 since then with 25 Ko’s under his belt in a total of 155 pro rounds. He stands 6-feet-3-inches tall with a a 77.5-inch reach and has better than average power as 80.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his last four in a row. However he was taken the distance in his four previous fights.
In his first attempt at a world title against Gilberto Ramirez in 2017 for the WBO Super Middleweight Title, Hart gave as good as he got but fell short on the judges’ scorecards with results of 115-112, 115-112 and 114-113 and was dropped by the champion in the second round. Before the rematch he stopped Thomas Awimbono, Demond Nicholson and Mike Gavronski in the the first, seventh and third rounds respectively and then lost a majority decision to Ramirez in a rematch in 2018 before moving up in weight.
Hart met Joe Smith Jr for the WBO NABO Light Heavyweight Belt in January, 2020 and was dropped in the seventh round while losing a 10-round split decision. For his third career defeat. Hart’s biggest win came against Sullivan Barrera in 2019 and he’s also beaten Derrick Findley, Samuel Miller, Mike Jiminez, Aaron Pryor Jr and Alan Campa. As a pro he’s won the vacant NABF Jr, IBF USBA, NABF, and WBO NABO Super Middleweight Titles. He’s won five fights in a row since losing to Smith, but against limited opposition.
The 29-year-old Coe makes the ring walk with a mark of 10-1-1 with 8 Ko’s and has boxed just 51 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. He measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach which means he gives up five inches in height to Hart. As far as power goes, Coe is well above average as 80 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. In fact he’s gone the distance just three times as a pro with one of those fights being a four-round draw with Aaron Casper in 2021.
Coe enjoyed an extensive amateur career and made it to the 2016 New Jersey Golden Gloves – 178-pound novice final. He won the 2017 USA National Championships Final by points over Sean Hemphill and captured the 2018 Chemistry Cup Final in Germany. Coe also reached the semifinals of the 2018 USA National Championships and was a part of the U.S. National Boxing Team but was unable to qualify for the Olympic Games because of a criminal record.
Prediction…
Hart is a former world class boxer who has good power and skills but is now in the twilight of his career and facing a boxer with power and is seven years younger. Hart is fighting in his hometown and has a significant height advantage but I don’t know if that’s going to be enough to overcome Coe. This should be a close fight that could go either way but I have a feeling that the younger Coe will pull it out.
Coe should be entering his prime as a pro.
