Alan David Picasso vs Kyonosuke Kameda Preview July 19th, 2025

Unbeaten Alan David Picasso of Mexico City takes on Japan’s Kyonosuke Kameda in a 10-round junior featherweight bout this Saturday, July 19th. The fight can be seen live in most nations on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios tilt from Las Vegas, Nevada on Prime Video pay-per-view. Picasso, who’s also known as Alan Romero and David Rey Picasso, was last in the ring in December when he stopped Yehison Cuello in the third round. Kameda’s last bout resulted in a seventh-round TKO defeat at the hands of former world champion Luis Nery in Mexico.

My Pick

Picasso will be fighting for the 33rd time as a pro despite turning just 25 years of age three days after this weekend’s fight. He made his debut in 2017 as a teenager and has boxed 175 rounds since. He makes the ring walk with a near-perfect mark of 31-0-1 with the lone blemish on his record being a four-round technical draw with Martin Jiminez Delgado in March, 2018 when Delgado was originally credited with a fourth-round TKO but the decision was overturned.

Picasso measures 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 70-inch reach and as far as power is concerned he’s slightly above average as 54.9 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s gone the distance in three of his past five contests. At one point in his career he had halted 10 of his last 12 opponents. Picasso captured the vacant WBC Youth Inter-Continental Jr Featherweight Title in 2019 via a 10-round unanimous decision over Anthony Jiminez Salas and added the vacant Inter-Continental Featherweight Crown the next year with a unanimous nod over Jesus Ouijada.

Picasso added the vacant NABF Jr Featherweight Belt in 2022 with a fourth-round stoppage of David Reyes Cota and then took the WBC Silver Crown in 2023 via a sixth-round TKO over Sabelo Ngebinyana. He took a step up in class in 2024 when he beat Azat Hovhannisyan by 12-round unanimous decision to defend his Silver Title. None of Picasso’s first 10 opponents had a winning record when stepping into the ring and his biggest wins to date have been against Hovhannisyan, Carlos Alberto Ocampo, Victor Proa, Jesus Gomez Quintana, Edixon Perez, Kevin Villanueva, Yeison Vargas, Erik Ruiz and Damien Vazquez.

The 26-year-old Kameda climbs through the ropes with a mark of 15-4-2 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed 105 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. He stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 70.5-inch reach and has decent power as 60 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However he’s gone the distance in seven of his past 11 outings and was stopped by Luis Nery. Kameda, who hails from Osaka, was also stopped in his pro debut in 2018 as Shinnosuke Kimoto halted him in the second round.

He bounced back though with three straight wins and was then held to a four-round draw by Ryugo Ushijima. Three fights later he dropped a four-round split decision to Jinki Maeda. Kameda won the vacant Japanese Youth Featherweight Title in 2021 when he stopped Tsubasa Narai in the second round but lost it in his first defence via an eight-round unanimous decision to Hiroki Hanabusa. The other draw on his record was an eight-round affair with Mugicha Nakagawa in 2023.

Prediction…

Kameda and Picasso are both aggressive action boxers with Kameda having a slight edge in power. This could be an exciting fight and it’s difficult to pick a winner here. Picasso handled Hovhannisyan well and Kameda had his moments against Nery. Picasso has more upside as a legitimate young prospect though and he has the edge in overall skills. I’ll give him a slight edge this weekend.

A close call with Picasso’s youthfulness and activity giving him the edge,
