Olanrewaju Durodola vs Marcus Browne Preview June 28th, 2025

The WBC International Cruiserweight Title is up for grabs this Saturday, June 28th when Marcus Browne of Staten Island, New York battles it out with Nigerian veteran Olanrewaju Durodola. Browne fought as a cruiserweight for the first time in August, 2023 when he beat Adrian Taylor by a wide 10-round unanimous decision. Durodola last saw action in March when he stopped Simon Olayinka after just one round. This weekend’s fight from Laval, Quebec, Canada can be seen live on Triller TV. Before beating Taylor almost two years ago, Browne hadn’t boxed since December, 2021 when he was stopped in the ninth round by Artur Beterbiev in a shot at his IBF and WBC Light Heavyweight Belts.

My Pick
The 34-year-old Browne enters the clash with an impressive mark of 25-2 with 16 Ko’s and the southpaw has 132 rounds of experience to his name since making his pro debut in 2012. He stands just over 6-feet-1-inch tall with a wingspan of 75.5 inches. Browne enjoyed a pretty good amateur career as he boxed at the 2012 Olympics in London, England, but was beaten by Damien Hooper on points 13-11 in his first contest of the tournament.
Browne possesses decent power in his punches as 64 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However, he lost two of his last four fights, hasn’t won by stoppage in his last six and last halted an opponent in January, 2018 when he finished Francy Ntetu in 135 seconds. As dar as his chin goes, Browne was stopped by Beterbiev in an exciting tilt and has been down a few other times in his career including in the fifth round against Lenin Castillo in 2018 and three times against Jean Pascal in 2019.
Browne lost to Pascal after eight rounds by technical decision due to a cut in 2019 and lost the WBC Silver, and the WBA interim Light Heavyweight Titles which he had won seven months earlier with a unanimous decision nod over Badou Jack. He’s also beaten Sean Monaghan, Thomas Williams Jr., Gabriel Campillo, Radivoje Kalajdzic, Cornelius White, Aaron Pryor Jr., George Blades and Otis Griffin. Browne’s not exactly the hardest guy to hit in the ring and combined with his power, that makes him a pretty exciting boxer to watch.
As for Durodola, he’s now 44 years old and fights out of Kansas City, Kansas. He climbs through the ropes with a record of 50-10 with 44 Ko’s. He has 207 rounds under his belt since turning pro in 2011 following his amateur career. He measures just over 6-feet-2-inches tall with an unlisted reach which means he’s an inch taller than Browne. As far as power is concerned, Durodola has plenty of it as 88 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including three of his last four.
He has been beaten 10 times however and has been halted in eight of those defeats by the likes of Akhror Muralimov, Mairis Briedis, Dmitry Kudryashov, Maxim Vlasov, Michal Cieslak, Ilunga Junior Makabu, Richard Riakporhe and Ryan Rozicki. His other losses were decisions over 10 rounds to Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Thabiso Mchunu. During his career Durodola has won the West African, WBC Continental Americas, WBC Silver, WBO Africa, and WBF World Cruiserweight Belts. His loss to Mchunu in 2020 was for the WBC World Title. His biggest wins have been against Jackson dos Santos, Dmitry Kudryashov, Walter David Cabral, Shannon miller and Mitch Williams.
Prediction…
Browne is 10 years younger than Durodola and has the skills and power to give anybody trouble even though his chin might not be the most sturdy. As for Durodola, He basically wins and loses the majority of his fights by knockout and has gone the distance just eight times in 60 pro bouts. He’s a natural cruiserweight though and Browne has fought just three times in the past five years. This fight will come down to chins and power and perhaps who lands the first big shot. It’s a tossup really as it looks like somebody’s going to be stopped. Browne has the better chin though so I’ll give him the edge here.
I think Browne’s chin will decide it.
