Lyndon Arthur vs Anthony Yarde Preview April 26th, 2025

Anthony Yarde returns to the ring in his hometown of London, England this Saturday, April 26th to take on fellow countryman Lyndon Arthur of Manchester. The 12-round light heavyweight battle from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is on the undercard of the Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr contest and can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view as well as on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK. Yarde last fought in October when he beat Ralfs Vilcans on points over 10 rounds while Arthur last saw action in June when he edged Liam Cameron via a 10-round split decision. This is the third meeting between Yarde and Arthur as Arthur won a 12-round split decision in 2020 to retain his Commonwealth Title and win the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Belt. Yarde took the rematch in 2021 when he stopped Arthur in the fourth round to take both of those belts.

My Pick

The 33-year-old Yarde climbs into the ring with a mark of 26-3 with 24 Ko’s and has boxed 113 rounds since turning pro back in 2015. He stands 6-feet tall with a 72-inch reach and carries very impressive power in his fists as 92.3 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. The only times he went the distance to earn a victory were in 2015 in his second pro fight when he beat Stanislavs Makarenko on points over four rounds and in his last outing against Vilcans.

Yarde fought a steady diet of limited opponents until facing Sergey Kovalev in 2019 for a shot at the WBO Light Heavyweight Belt. He had Kovalev in serious trouble but was eventually stopped in the 11thround for his first pro loss. He then he dropped a 12-round split decision to Arthur in December 2020 in a shot at the Commonwealth and WBO Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Titles but stopped Arthur in the fourth round a year later to win those belts.

His third pro defeat also came by stoppage when IBF/WBO/WBC Champion Artur Beterbiev halted him in an eight-round slugfest in January, 2023. He bounced back eight months later with a second-round knockout win over Jorge Silva and then stopped Marko Nikolic in the third round before beating Vilcans last year. Yarde has always been a power puncher as he reportedly went 11-1 with 11 Ko’s as an amateur and that power has carried over to the pro ranks.

Since turning pro, Yarde has also captured the English Southern Area and and WBO European Light Heavyweight Titles and defended the WBO Inter-Continental Crown five times before losing to Arthur. He’s also beaten Walter Gabriel Sequeira, Dariusz Zek, Doc Spelman Tony Averlant, Nikola Sjekloca, Norbert Nemesapati, Richard Baranyi and Ferenc Albert. In total, he’s gone the distance just three times in his 29 pro fights.

Arthur is also 33 years old and he enters the ring with a mark of 24-2 with 16 Ko’s and has boxed 137 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 following his amateur career. Since then he captured the vacant British Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Title in October, 2019 via a 12-round unanimous decision over Emmanuel Amin. He defended it against Doc Spelman by unanimous decision before beating Anthony Yarde by 12-round split decision in December, 2020 to add the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Crown.

He defended the WBO belt with a ninth-round TKO over Davide Faraci but then lost both of his titles when he was halted by Yarde in the fourth round of their 2021 rematch. Arthur bounced back from his first pro defeat with TKO wins over Walter Sequiria (5th rd) and Joel McIntyre (2nd rd) before beating Boris Crighton on points over 10 rounds and then stopping Braian Suarez for the vacant IBO Belt. In December, 2023 Arthur lost that title in his first defence when he dropped a unanimous decision to Dmitrii Bivol.

Arthur used his boxing skills to upset Yarde in a close split decision in their first meeting but couldn’t handle his power in the rematch. As far as his own power is concerned, Arthur is also above average as 66.7 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he’s gone the distance in three of his past four fights. He has a decent chin even though Yarde halted him and he stands 6-feet-2-inches with a 74-inch reach which gives him a two-inch edge in height and reach on Yarde.

Prediction…

Arthur surprised Yarde with his skills in their first meeting but was overpowered by him in the rematch. Yarde has been taking on lower-level opposition in his last couple of fights though so may not be as sharp as he should be, especially if he hopes to earn another shot at a world title. I’m expecting Arthur to put up another good fight but still expect Yarde to win it, with another stoppage being a possibility.

Yarde’s power should do the trick.
