The Woodbine Mile is set to take place this Saturday evening at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. This is a huge race this year with a lot on the line. Of course there is the $1,000,000 purse, but you also have to factor in the fact that the Woodbine Mile is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series and the tagline for the series is “Win and You’re In”. So needless to say there is a lot of pressure on these horses to perform in order to claim the first place prize and a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November.

As you can see Notable Speech is a significant favourite heading into the race, while One Stripe is the second favorite with odds of 5/2.
Notable Speech is coming off a second place finish at a Grade 1 race in France. He hasn’t won in his last 6 races, which is a red flag for a big favourite, but the races have all been Grade 1 with strong fields.
One Stripe is coming off a 6th place finish, but he did have three straight wins before that. He has raced all but one of his career races at Kenilworth Park Racetrack outside of Windsor, so this will be a big step up in competition and running at Woodbine could be out of his comfort zone. That said, I would lean One Stripe of the two favorites.
My pick is Win for the Money at morning line odds of 8-1. He is the defending Woodbine Mile champion and although he hasn’t had his best stuff this summer, I think he’s good value as a fast horse who has won this race before.
