It’s almost fight night! Teofimo Lopez and Josh Taylor will fight for Taylor’s WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles this Saturday, June 10th in New York City. The fight will take place at Hulu Theater at MSG.
Teofimo Lopez defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko in a huge fight to win four lightweight titles in October of 2020. Lopez was considered one of the top pound for pound boxers in the world after that fight, but he proceeded to lose the belts in a split decision loss to George Kambosos Jr. in November of 2021. After that fight Lopez moved up to light-welterweight and has won two fights including a split decision win over Sandor Martin in December of 2022.
Josh Taylor is the current WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring light-welterweight belt holder, but only the WBO and The Ring titles will be on the line vs Lopez. Taylor is coming off a controversial split decision win over Jack Catterall that many viewers believed Catterall won. Taylor and Catterall were expected to rematch, but there were issues with booking the fight and Josh Taylor ultimately decided to book this fight with Lopez.
