My Pick
The 27-year-old Crocker climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 18-0 with 10 Ko’s and has boxed 87 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him compete in the 2015 Irish Under-18 Championships and take a silver medal in the competition in 2014. He won the 2014 Irish Youth 2 Championships and reached the semifinals of the Irish Open Youth competition the same year. Crocker also won the 2013 Irish Youth 1 Championship, reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 EUBC European Junior Championships and competed in several other national tournaments, reportedly winning 90 of his 97 amateur bouts.
Since turning pro, Crocker captured the vacant WBO European Welterweight Title in August, 2020 with a seventh-round TKO over Louis Greene. He defended it with a 10-round unanimous decision over Dennis Ibay after dropping him in the third round and also by stopping Artem Haroyan in the seventh stanza. Crocker also has wins over the likes of Joel Julio and John Thain. He possesses decent power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 55.6 per cent but has gone the distance in eight of his last dozen fights. Crocker stands 5-feet-9-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach.
As for Felix, he’s a 31-year-old from Los Mochis, who climbs into the ring with a mark of 40-6-1 with 31 Ko’s. He’s boxed 212 rounds since turning pro in 2009 as a teenager and has quite a bit of power in his arsenal as 77.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his last three. Felix went five years a a pro with a 27-0-1 record before suffering his first defeat to Bryan Vasquez in 2014 when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision in a shot at the vacant WBA interim Super Featherweight Title.
He then dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Jonathan Maicelo in 2017 when he was decked five times and was stopped in the ninth round by Marcos Villasana a year later for the vacant WBC Latino light Crown. His next loss came two fights later when Isaac Cruz halted Felix in the third round in November, 2018 and he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Tyrone McKenna for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Belt in August, 2021 and was then beaten by Sandor Martin via a wide 10-round unanimous decision in his next outing eight months later.
The lone draw on Felix’s record was a four-round affair with Maximilano Galindo back in 2010. He’s been stopped twice and has been dropped several times during his career but fortunately for Felix, Crocker isn’t really known for his power. Felix has gone 5-5 in his last 10 fights as he’s been very inconsistent but when he’s at his best he can be more than a handful for anybody. He measures just over 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 70.5-inch reach which sees him give up just a half inch in height to Crocker.
Prediction…
Crocker has fought limited opposition as a pro but as beaten everybody he’s faced. He’s not known as a KO artist but has a solid chin which may be needed against the hard-hitting Felix. Crocker has fine skills and is fighting at home. As long his he can handle Felix’s power he should claim the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Belt on Saturday, likely by decision.
Crocker’s boxing skills and chin give him the edge.
