Elijah Garcia vs Kevin Newman II Preview March 28th, 2026

Southpaw Elijah Garcia of Glendale, Arizona takes on Kevin Newman II of Los Angeles, California in a 10-round super middleweight tilt this Saturday, March 28th. The fight from Las Vegas, Nevada can be seen live on Prime Video in most nations on the undercard of the Sebastian Fundora vs Keith Thurman bout. Garcia last boxed a year ago when he beat Terrell Gausha by a 10-round split decision despite being dropped in the opening round. That was a bounce-back fight for Garcia after losing a 10-round split decision to Kyrone Davis in a bit of an upset in his previous outing for his lone defeat as a pro. Newman’s last fight resulted in a seventh-round TKO over Malcolm Jones in July.

My Pick
Elijah Garcia is just 22 years old and enters the contest with a fine record of 17-1 with 13 Ko’s. He’s boxed 74 rounds since making his pro debut in 2020 following his amateur career. As an amateur he reached the semifinals of the 2019 USA Youth National Championships, the final of the 2018 USA Junior Open Tournament, the quarterfinals of the 2018 USA Junior Golden Gloves, the final of the 2017 USA Junior Olympics Intermediate Division and the 2016 USA Junior Olympics Final in the Intermediate Division.
Garcia stands 6-feet-tall with a 71-inch reach and has plenty of power in his offensive arsenal as 76.5 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage, including four of his last six. He stopped Amilcar Vidal Jr in the fourth round in March, 2023 to capture the WBC Latino Middleweight Title and defended it just six weeks later via a 10-round unanimous decision over Kevin Salgado with Salgado having a point deducted for a low blow in the seventh round. He also has wins over Jose Armando Resendiz and Edgar Valenzuela and took a step up in class in his tilt with Terrell Gausha.
The 34-year-old Newman fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada and has 108 rounds of pro experience under his belt since making his debut in 2014. He makes the ring walk with a mark of 18-3-1 with 11 Ko’s and measures 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 74.5-inch wingspan. This gives him a one-inch edge in height over Garcia as well as a 3.5-inch reach advantage. Newman also possesses pretty good power as 61.1 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage including five of his past seven.
Newman’s first pro defeat came at the hands of Marcos Hernandez by six-round unanimous decision in 2017 after being dropped in the final round. He also lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Genc Pilana in 2020 and in his next outing in 2021 he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Manuel Gallegos. Newman’s lone draw was a four-round affair in his pro debut with Azamat Umarzoda. He hasn’t taken on any top contenders during his career with wins against the likes of Eric Robles, Alan Campa and Hector Ortiz but also fought in the Team Boxing league where he met Ronald Ellis, Angel Lozano and Alantez Fox.
Prediction…
Garcia is known for his boxing skills and power while Newman is known for his durability. Garcia is 12 years younger than Newman but a bit smaller physically and is making his debut as a fully-fledged super middleweight. Garcia’s power and youthfulness should do the job as long as he has no problems in the 168 lb division. This fight may go the full 10 rounds but Garcia should be able to do enough to pull out a decision.
Garcia combines skill and power.
