David Adeleye vs Filip Hrgovic Preview August 16th, 2025

Croatia’s top heavyweight Filip Hrgovic is back in action this Saturday, August 16th when he takes in David Adeleye of London, England. The 10-round heavyweight tilt can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view. Hrgovic last fought in April when he beat Joe Joyce, a former WBO Interim Champion, by 10-round unanimous decision for the vacant WBO International Heavyweight Belt. Hrgovic was stopped by Daniel Dubois due to severe cuts in the eighth round in June of last year in a shot at the IBF Interim Title for the lone defeat on Hrgovic’s pro record. Adeleye was last in the ring in April when he stopped Jeamie Tshikeva in the sixth round to win the vacant British Heavyweight Title, which he reportedly has since vacated.

My Pick
The 28-year-old Adeleye carries around an impressive record of 14-1 with 13 Ko’s and has boxed just 50 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019. He began boxing at the age of 14 and was crowned the Junior ABA champion in 2013. He won the Senior ABA Novices in 2017 and the Senior ABA Belt in 2018. Adeleye also took gold at the 2018 British Universities and Colleges Sport Boxing Championships. He stands just over 6-feet-4-inches tall with a 76.5-inch reach.
His lone defeat came at the hands of Fabio Wardley by seventh-round TKO in October, 2023 in a shot at the British, and Commonwealth Heavyweight Titles. Adeleye lost the WBO European Belt in that fight as he won the vacant crown eight months earlier when he stopped Dmytro Bezus in the second round. As far as power is concerned, Adeleye has very heavy fists as 93 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s gone the distance just once as a pro, which was a six-round points win over Kamil Sokolowski in 2021.
The 33-year-old Hrgovic enters the ring with a mark of 18-1 with 14 Ko’s and has gone 92 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015. He measures 6-feet-6-inches tall with a reported 82-inch reach, which gives him a 1.5-inch height advantage and 6.5-inch reach edge on Adeleye. He also possesses impressive power in his fists as 77.8 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. But until beating Zhilei Zhang by a controversial 12-round unanimous decision in 2022, he hadn’t taken on a legitimate contender as his previous wins were against the likes of Marko Radonjic, Rydell Booker, Pavel Sour, Tom Little, Sean Turner, Amir Mansour, Kevin Johnson, Gregory Corbin and Eric Molina.
The only four opponents to go the distance with him so far have been Johnson over eight rounds in 2018; Turner over eight rounds the same year; Zhang over 12 rounds in August, 2022 and Joyce in his last outing in April. Hrgovic’s first 12 knockouts came within the first five rounds and he stopped Demsey McKean in the 12th and final round in 2023. Hrgovic stopped Mansour in the third round in 2018 to take the vacant WBC International Heavyweight Title and defended it three times. He then won the IBF International belt against Booker in 2020 and has defended it twice.
Hrgovic enjoyed a fine amateur career and won a bronze medal as a super heavyweight at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also reached the quarterfinals at the 2011, 2013 and 2015 World Amateur Championships and won the 2010 Youth World Championships as well as the 2015 European Championships. In addition, Hrgovic went 25-4 with 10 Ko’s in the World Series of Boxing from 2010 to 2015. His loss to Dubois was highly entertaining as they both landed numerous solid blows throughout the fight.
Prediction…
Adeleye will be taking a step up in class this weekend as the only legitimate contender he’s faced up until now has been Fabio Wardley, and he was halted in the seventh round in that fight. Hrgovic has been letting his hands go more recently as Dubois and Joyce forced him to answer back. He’s got a steady chin and will need it if Adeleye lands cleanly. Both boxers have power but Hrgovic may be better at taking a shot. This fight could go either way due to their power but I’m leaning towards Hrgovic here as he’s taken on tougher opponents during his career, still, I expect both boxers to have their moments.
Hrgovic’s right hand and chin should be the difference.
