My Pick

The 31-year-old Adames now fights out of Las Vegas and carries around a record of 24-1-1 with 18 Ko’s. He’s boxed 139 rounds since making his pro debut in 2015 following a fine amateur career. He competed at the 2013 World Amateur Championships, won a gold medal at the 2012 Pan American Youth Championships, reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 World Youth Championships and won a bronze medal at the 2013 Pan American Championships.

Since turning pro he’s also captured the WBA Fedecaribe, and WBA Fedelatin Welterweight Titles, the NABF, and WBO NABO Super Welterweight Crowns. His lone loss came to Patrick Teixeira via a unanimous decision in November, 2019 in a shot at the interim WBO Super Welterweight Title and was dropped in the seventh round along the way. He stopped former world champion Julian Williams in the ninth round in 2023 to defend the WBC Interim Middleweight Belt which he won in October, 2022 by stopping Juan Macias Montiel in the third round. .

Adames has faced some top level boxers such as Sheeraz, Gausha, Teixeira and Williams and also edged Sergiy Derevyanchenko via a 10-round majority decision in December, 2021. He also has wins over Patrick Day, Frank Galarza and Joshua Conley. Adames stands 5-feet-11-inches tall with a 73-inch reach and has very good power in his punches as 75 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including seven of his last 10 victories.

As for Williams, he’s a southpaw who fights out of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He’s 29 years old and owns a record of 19-1 with 13 Ko’s. He also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he reached the quarterfinals of the 2017 and 2018 USA National Championships and the semifinals in 2016 and now has 116 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2019. Williams stands six-feet-tall with a 78-inch reach for a one-inch height advantage over Adames as well as five inches in reach.

Williams also carries plenty of power in his fists as 68.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including three of his last four. His lone defeat came at the hands of Hamzah Sheeraz when he was halted in the 11th round in June, 2024 in a shot at the WBC Silver Middleweight Title. Williams downed Steve Rolls via a 10-round unanimous decision in 2023 to take the IBF North American Middleweight Belt and also has wins over Denis Douglin, Chordale Booker, Kieron Conway, River Wilson-Bent and Patrice Volny.

Prediction…

Adames and Williams are solid boxers with good skills and plenty of power with Adames having a lot more experience against tougher opposition. Williams has a bit of a size advantage and I’m expecting this to be pretty close for several rounds and it may even last the distance. However Adames should have the advantage if he lets his hands go each round and utilizes his natural aggressiveness.

Adames will have his hands full but should prevail.
