Ronny Rios of Compton, California battles it out with Bryan Acosta of Mexico this Saturday, March 28th. This weekend’s 10-round featherweight bout from Long Beach, California can be seen live on Probox.tv as well as their YouTube website and Fubo Sports. Rios last fought in October, 2024 when he was stopped in the 10th round by Nick Ball in a shot at the WBA Featherweight Title. It was his second straight defeat as he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Ramon Cardenas seven months earlier for the WBA Continental Latin America Featherweight Title.

- Bryan Acosta -200
My Pick
The 27-year-old Acosta enters the contest with a mark of 20-2 with 8 Ko’s and has 129 rounds of pro experience to his name since making his debut in 2016 as a teenager. He measures 5-feet-7-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach. As an amateur, he reportedly compiled a record of 117-7. Acosta doesn’t possesses much in the way of power as just 40 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage. However three of his last four wins have been by knockout.
Acosta started his pro career at 20-0 but then ran in Ramon Cardenas and Sulaiman Segawa, so he really needs a win here to get his career back on track. Coincidentally, both of his defeats came in his only two fights in the USA. In 2022 he won the vacant WBC Continental Americas Featherweight Belt via a 10th-and-final round TKO over Benito Sanchez Garcia in Toronto, Canada. Acosta also has wins over Diego Chavez, Dennis Contreras and Pablo Robles.
Rios is now 36 years and old climbs through the ropes with a mark of 34-5 with 17 Kos and has boxed 244 rounds since making his pro debut in 2013. Along with being stopped by Nick Ball in his last fight, he’s also been beaten by Robinson Castellanos in 2014; Rey Vargas in 2017; Azat Hovhannisyan in 2018 and Murodjon Akhmadaliev in 2022. He went the distance with Vargas in a shot at the WBC Super Bantamweight Title, was stopped in the fifth round by Castellanos, halted in the sixth round by Hovhannisyan in an attempt at the WBC Continental Americas Super Bantamweight Belt and was stopped in the 12th round by Akhmadaliev in a shot at the IBF Super Bantamweight Crown.
Rios stands just over 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 67-inch reach so is just half-an-inch taller than Acosta. He has average power as 50 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including four of his past five. He’s a solid pro with good skills but typically falls short when stepping up in class and has been stopped in four of his five losses. As an amateur, Rios was a 2007 United States Amateur Bantamweight Champion, a 2007 National Golden Gloves Bantamweight Champion and a 2008 United States Amateur Bantamweight Champion.
Since turning pro he’s also captured the WBA Gold World, and NABF Super Bantamweight Titles as well as the WBC Silver Featherweight Belt and NABF Featherweight Championship. He’s beaten some pretty good boxers along the way such as Nicolas Polanco, Oscar Negrete, Roger Gonzalez, Rico Ramos, Andrew Cancio, Jayson Velez and Diego De La Hoya. However he’s now in the twilight of his career and this is his first fight in about a year-and-a-half.
Prediction…
Acosta is coming off of two straight losses while Rios also lost his last fight. Rios has been inactive lately though and is 36 years old. In addition, he doesn’t have the greatest chin so he’s going to need to stay away from Acosta’s limited power shots. Rios definitely has the edge in pro experience here and has faced some stiff opposition in the past. If he can stay on his feet he has a legitimate chance of winning this fight. This is a close call and if Rios isn’t a shot fighter at this stage then I give him a very slight edge here.
Rios could prevail in a mild upset.
