- Mateus Heita +2000
- Bruce Carrington -15000
My Pick
The 28-year-old Carrington owns a perfect mark of 15-0 with 9 Ko’s for a current knockout ratio of 60 per cent and has boxed 82 rounds since making his pro debut in 2021. He enjoyed a successful amateur career as he captured the 2017 New York City Golden Gloves and 2020 US Olympic Trials. However, instead of waiting foe the Covid-delayed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan he decided to embark on a professional career instead. He reportedly went 255-31 as an amateur.
Carrington stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 78-inch reach and he’s gone the distance in two of his last three fights. He won the vacant IBF International, NABF, and WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight Titles in February, 2024 when he stopped Bernard Angelo Torres in the fourth round. He defended all three belts by halting Brayan De Gracia in the eighth round and added the WBC Silver Featherweight\ Crown with a 10-round majority decision over Sulaiman Segawa. Carrington has never gone over 10 rounds, which he has done just once and all 15 of his opponents had a winning record.
Heita is 27 years old and owns a perfect record of 14-0 with 9 Ko’s for a knockout ratio of 64.3 per cent. And he’s stopped six of his last seven opponents. Eight of his 14 opponents have had winning records and this will be his first fight outside of Africa. There is no height and reach information available for him so we don’t know how Heita stacks up against Carrington size-wise.
He won the vacant Namibian Super Bantamweight Title in 2021 by stopping Julius Sheetheni in the sixth round. Heita added the vacant African Super Bantamweight Belt in 2022 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jonas Matheus and captured the vacant African Featherweight Crown in November, 2024 by stopping Tatenda Biningu after five rounds.
Prediction…
Heita is ranked 14th by the WBO and 13th by the WBC while Carrington is ranked number one by the WBO and WBC so it’s a bit odd to see Heita getting some type of title shot even if it is for an interim belt. Both boxers are unbeaten but Carrington has a wealth of amateur experience to go along with his speed and boxing skills. Heita has decent power but he doesn’t match Carrington in skill. The odds are astronomical here so a Heita win would be an upset of epic proportions. I’m expecting Carrington to leave the ring with the WBC’s Interim Featherweight Title this weekend.
Carrington has the edge in boxing skills and speed.
