Angel Ayala Lardizabal vs Kyosuke Takami Preview April 11th, 2026

There’s a fine 10-round flyweight battle scheduled in Tokyo, Japan this Saturday, April 11th as former IBF Champion Angel Ayala of Mexico takes on Kyosuke Takami in Takami’s hometown. The fight can be seen live in most nations on DAZN while fans in Japan can catch it on Prime Video Boxing, with the card getting underway about 4:30 am ET. Takami last fought in December when he dropped a 12-round split decision to WBO Boss Rene Santiago to lose his WBA Light Flyweight Title. Takami won the belt last July when he halted Erick Rosa in the 10th round. Ayala’s last fight resulted in a 12th-round TKO loss to Masamichi Yabuki to lose the IBF Flyweight Title which he won by stopping Dave Apolinario in the sixth round in August, 2024.

My Pick
The 25-year-old Ayala makes the ring walk with a fine mark of 18-1 with 8 Ko’s and has boxed 117 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019 as a teenager. The former champion carries below average power in his fists as just 44.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and he’s stopped just three of his last 10 opponents. He stands 5-feet-6-inches tall and possesses a 66-inch reach which means he’s just half-an-inch taller than Takami and also has a minimal half-inch edge in reach on him.
Ayala won the vacant WBC Fecarbox Flyweight Title in 2021 via a 10-round unanimous decision over Jeovani Gonzalez. He then added the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Flyweight Belt with a seven-round technical decision over Brandon Gallardo Vargas. That fight went to the scorecards after seven rounds due to heavy rainfall. Ayala also has wins over Luis Castro, Juan Zuniga, Cristofer Rosales, Miguel Angel Herrera and Felix Alvarado.
The 24-year-old Takami owns a record of 10-1 with 8 Ko’s. He’s fought just 60 rounds as a pro since making his debut in 2022 due to his above-average power as 80 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage. He’s gone the distance just three times as a pro in his 11 bouts. Takami measures just over 5-feet-5-inches with a 65.5-inch reach and was an amateur high school boxing star in his homeland and has fought exclusively as a pro in Japan.
Until beating Erick Rosa last summer, his most-recognizable opponent had been Wulan Tuolehazi of China, with Takami beating him via an eight-round unanimous nod in July, 2024. Takami also stopped Toshiki Kawamitsu in the sixth round last April to take the Japanese Light Flyweight Title. All 11 of Takami’s opponents entered the ring with a winning record. He has recorded three knockouts in the first round; one in the second; one in the fifth; two in the sixth and one in the 10th.
Prediction…
These are two fine young boxers who appear to have great futures ahead of them. Takami is at home and has a decided edge in power but Ayala has taken on some tough customers in his career and has lost just once. Takami needs to be wary of Ayala’s experience here but I think if he lets his hands go as he usually does, Takami should be able to do enough to earn a win with a stoppage being a possibility.
Takami has the edge in most departments other than experience.
