My Pick
The 30-year-old Barriere is a southpaw who makes the ring walk with a perfect record of 12-0 with 10 Ko’s. There’s no denying his power as 83.3 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage and he’s gone the distance just twice since turning pro in 3021. He has just 37 rounds of experience under his belt due to his power and also enjoyed a pretty good amateur career. Barriere fought at the 2017 and 2018 Canadian Amateur Championships and made it to the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.
Barriere stands 6-feet-4-inches tall with an unlisted reach and has never fought past eight rounds. He hasn’t taken on any legitimate heavyweight contenders and will be taking a big step up in class against Vianello this weekend. He captured the vacant Canadian Heavyweight Belt in 2021 with a fourth-round TKO over Abokan Bokpe and has fought just once outside of his home province of Quebec, Canada.
As for the hard-hitting Vianello, he’s 31 years old and carries around a record of 13-3-1 with 11 Ko’s and has banked just 75 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. Before that he also enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him compete in the World Series of Boxing. He won a silver medal at the 2014 European Championships and competed at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil where he was defeated by Lenier Pero in his opening match as a super-heavyweight. He measures 6-feet-6-inches tall with a 79-inch reach which gives him a two-inch height advantage on Barriere.
Vianello, who fights out of Las Vegas, also possesses excellent power as 84.6 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage, but he’s halted just two opponents in his last seven outings. His first loss came at the hands of Jonathan Rice in an upset in January, 2023 when he was stopped in the seventh round due to a cut eye from a punch. He also dropped a 10-round split decision to Efe Ajagba last March in a shot at the WBC Silver Heavyweight Title. His draw was a six-round affair with Kingsley Ibeh in 2020. Vianello also has wins over Curtis Harper, Rafael Rios, Marlon Williams and Colby Madison.
Prediction…
Both boxers have very heavy hands and good chins. However Vianello has definitely faced tougher opponents as a pro and unless he gets caught right on the button I’m expecting him to pull out a win here with a slim chance that the fight goes the distance.
Vianello’s pro experience should be the difference.
