Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Sergey Lipinets +450
  • Adam Azim -700

My Pick

Azim is just 22 years old and climbs through the ropes with a perfect record of 12-0 with 9 Ko’s. He’s known as a powerful puncher as his current knockout ratio stands at 75 per cent. He’s halted his last three opponents but went the distance in his previous two bouts. Azim turned pro in 2020 following a good amateur career which saw him reportedly win 10 national titles and being ranked the world’s top welterweight youth amateur. He currently has 59 rounds of pro experience under his belt.

As a pro, Azim captured the vacant WBC Youth Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title in 2022 when he stopped Anthony Loffet in 66 seconds. He then won the European Crown in November, 2023 with a 10th-round TKO over Franck Petitjean after dropping him in the fifth round. He took a step up in class against Ohara Davies in his last fight and will be taking another step up this weekend against Lipinets. He seems seems well prepared though due to his skill and power. Azim stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach.

Former IBF Super Lightweight Champion Sergey Lipinets won that vacant title in November, 2017 with a unanimous decision over Akihiro Kondo. The 35-year-old is now 18-3-1 with 13 Ko’s. He also carries good power in his fists as 72.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s halted just one of his last five opponents though and his record is two wins, two losses and a draw in that span. Lipinets turned pro in 2014 after a fine amateur career and is also a former WAKO Kickboxing Champion.

He has 149 rounds of pro experience and stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 67-inch reach, so is three inches shorter than Azim. Lipinets’ first career loss came via a 12-round unanimous decision to Mikey Garcia in March, 2018 in which he lost his IBF Crown in his first defence. His second defeat came at the hands of Jaron Ellis when he was stopped in the sixth round in April, 2021 and he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Michel Rivera in November, 2023. His biggest wins have come against former world champions Lamont Peterson and Omar Figueroa the last time out.

The other recognizable opponents he’s faced are Erick Bone, Walter Castillo and Cosme Rivera. His lone draw was a 12-round majority affair with Custio Clayton in October, 2020 for the Interim IBF Welterweight Belt. Lipinets has displayed a pretty good chin so far to go along with his power even though he was dropped in the seventh round by Garcia and stopped by Ennis. Lipinets, who fights out of California, also won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Title in July, 2019 when he stopped Jay Ar Inson in the second round.

Prediction…

Lipinets and Azim both possess plenty of power and Lipinets has been stopped once. Lipinets has far more experience against upper-level opponents but has struggled lately as he’s now 35 years old and is understandably slowing down a bit. This is an interesting matchup as Azim is 13 years younger but is facing his stiffest test as a pro. This has the potential to be a very entertaining contest and I’m leaning towards the younger Azim.

Azim is 13 years younger with a bit more power.
