My Pick
Gonzalez is just 24 years old and owns a perfect record of 18-0 with 11 Ko’s. He has 82 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2021. As an amateur, he reportedly went 65-8 and won the 2018 USA Junior Golden Gloves Title. He started boxing as a seven-year-old and turned pro under the tutelage of trainer Robert Garcia. Sadly, his older brother Danny, who was also a pro boxer, was murdered about six years ago.
Known for his speed, upper body movement and body attack, Gonzalez earned his Chop Chop nickname due to his ability to systematically break down his opponents. When it comes to power his current knockout ratio clocks in at 61.1 per cent. He’s stopped his last four opponents after going the distance in his previous three fights. Gonzalez measures 5-feet-7-inches tall but unfortunately has an unlisted reach. He also has wins over Leonardo Baez, Franklin Gonzalez and Brandon Chambers.
The 31-year-old Vazquez makes the ring walk with a record of 20-3 with just 6 Ko’s. He has boxed 151 rounds since turning pro in 2016 following his amateur days. He stands 5-feet-7-inches tall, the same as Gonzalez and has a 65-inch reach. The first setback on his pro record was a 10-round split decision defeat at the hands of Raymond Ford in 2022. He then bounced back with four straight wins before dropping a majority decision to Joe Cordina in a shot at the IBF Super Featherweight Belt in 2023.
Vazquez also had a shot at the WBO Featherweight Title in 2025 and was stopped in the fifth round by Rafael Espinoza. As far as power goes, Vazquez doesn’t have much pop in his punches at all as just 30 per cent of his wins have come by way of stoppage. However three of his last four wins have come by stoppage. Other than Ford, Cordina and Daniel Lugo, Vazquez hasn’t really faced any other recognizable opponents other than perhaps Brandon Cruz.
He also beat Irvin Gonzalez by an eight-round split decision in 2020 to take the vacant WBC USA Featherweight Title. He added the vacant IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Belt in 2023 with a 10-round unanimous nod over Brayan De Gracia. Vazquez then took the vacant IBF USBA Super Featherweight Crown in 2024 by halting Kenneth Taylor in the fourth round. In addition, he fought Abraham Torres to a four-round draw in his second pro fight in 2017 but it was later changed to a no-contest. Vazquez has a decent chin even though he’s been stopped and dropped before.
Prediction…
Gonzalez has the decided edge in power and is seven years younger than Vazquez. He doesn’t have the same amount and level of pro experience but Vazquez doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay. Considering he’s known for his body shots, hook s and uppercuts, I’m going with Gonzalez in this fight but it may go the distance still.
The younger Gonzalez is better in most areas.
