MY PICK

The unbeaten southpaw Jalolov is 32 years old and enters the bout with a perfect mark of 17-0 with 15 Ko’s for an 88.2 per cent knockout ratio. He’s boxed just 60 rounds since turning pro in 2018 with his longest tilt lasting 10 rounds. He enjoyed an extensive amateur career as a super heavyweight and won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships; gold medals at the 2019 and 2023 World Championships and gold at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics. He also fought at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and was Uzbekistan’s flag bearer at both the 2016 and 2020 Games.

In addition, Jalolov captured a gold medal at the 2017, 2019 and 2021 Asian Championships. He stands 6-feet-7-inches tall and has an 81-inch reach. Jalolov has been brought along slowly as a pro, arguably too slowly, and has yet to face a ranked opponent. He won the vacant NABF Junior Heavyweight Title in 2019 when he stopped Brendan Barrett in the first round. Jalolov also has wins over the likes of Kamil Sokolowski, Chris Thompson, Curtis Harper, Willie Harvey and Tyrell Wright.

The 32-year-old Dacres enters the contest with a mark of 10-1 with 3 Ko’s and comes nowhere close to matching Jalolov in power as just 30 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s boxed 76 rounds since turning pro back in 2021 following his amateur career. Dacres was a member of the Great Britain boxing squad for three years and reportedly went 35-10. He’s 6-feet-5-inches tall with an unlisted reach so gives up two inches in height to Jalolov.

Dacres captured the vacant English Heavyweight Title in 2023 when he stopped Robert Ismay in the second round. He defended the belt twice against Michael Webster via a 10-round majority decision and a seventh-round TKO. However he lost the crown in 2024, David Adeleye knocked him out in just 80 seconds. He bounced back last year with his win over the previously unbeaten Vladyslav Sirenko but hasn’t been very active as this is just his second fight since losing to Adeleye 27 months ago. Dacres also has wins over Kamil Sokolowski and Chris Thompson.

PREDICTION…

To be honest here, Jalolov is one of the most-decorated boxers in amateur history and he’s more or less wasting away his pro career. He’s 32 years old and spinning his wheels by fighting domestic and European level opponents and that trend continues this weekend. He possesses tremendous power and boxing skills with a fine jab, footwork and thunderous left hand. Dacres doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay for 10 rounds and even though I’m going with Jalolov here, there’s a chance it may go the distance.

Jalolov’s power could result in a stoppage.
